Nguyen V. Nguyen: Dust Up Over VVPAT Printers

If you thought the Nguyen v. Nguyen case was over and done with...think again.
The old gang -- Phil Greer, Leon Page, Steve Baric and Mike Schroeder -- were in court again this morning. The subject? VVPAT printers.
During the lawsuit, Team Trung had asked that the 172 Voter Verification Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) printers used during the special election be sequestered. And that is where they have remained, per court order.
With the February 5 primary election approaching, the OC Registrar of Voters needed those printers as a "ready reserve" in case any VVPAT printers need replacement on Tuesday. That meant having the court order lifted.
Which is why the above parties were in court today. Leon Page from the County Counsel's office asked both parties to stipulate to lifting the court order. Phil Greer, on behalf of Sup. Janet Nguyen, agreed. Steve Baric and Mike Schroeder, on behalf of Trung Nguyen, refused.
Page asked the court to lift the court order anyway in view of the circumstances with the February 5 election, and the court granted the request about noon today.
The ROV is currently removing the paper rolls (the VVPAT printouts from the 2007 special election) and placing them ins a secure location, and getting the VVPAT printers ready for use.
Team Trung's refusal to stipulate to lifting the court order would indicate they haven't decided whether or not to appeal the Court of Appeals ruling.

Leave it to Team Trung to put themselves ahead of the public good...
God, this is getting dreary. Why can't Schroeder and hip puppet just go away.
Did Al Gore try to draw it out this long?
How many voting machines are going to be tied up in this lawsuit that won't be used by voters on Tuesday?
The OC Registrar has been playing partial tunes, too. Why do they have to wait 2-3 days prior to the election to ask for these machines? Do they want to get some headlines for Janet again? Did they fail in forecasting how many voters will turn out to vote? So if this primary goes down in repeated errors now they have someone to pin the blame for.
Did the Registrar pick the winner last time?
