How Each OC Sanitation Director Voted
Posted by: Tomahawk | 02/28/2008 1:15 AM
Since we failed in our attempt to stop the fee increase, I want to at least publicize how each Orange County Sanitation District Director voted for the public to see.
The public, however, did not fail to make their voices heard. The Sanitation District Board Room was jam packed; an overflow room had to be used to accommodate the large crowd. In the 1 ½ hour of public comment all but two or three speakers voiced strong opposition to the increases. Each speaker brought forth some solid points as to why the increases should be smaller or at least not automatic for the next few years. If one thing was accomplished tonight, hopefully OC local elected officials will be reluctant to raise fees and taxes in the future.
Would the outcome of tonight's decision be any different if Chris Norby and Christina Shea were there to vote against this largest tax increase in recent years? I'm sure they would, since both pride themselves in being good conservative Republicans.
Can someone ask them why they didn't show up?
Harry Sidhu/Anaheim: No
Roy Moore/Brea: Yes
Patsy Marshal/Buena Park: Yes
Phil Luebben/Cypress: Yes
Larry Crandall/Fountain Valley: Yes
Don Bankhead/Fullerton: No

Rose Espinoza/La Habra: YesThe proposal needed 2/3 of the members present in order to pass, so the vote was close. A few Board of Directors attempted to lower the rates or only approve an increase for this year and junk the automatic increases, but unfortunately their efforts failed.

Leslie Daigle/Newport Beach: Yes
Jon Dumitru/Orange: No

Joy Neugebauer/Midway City Sanitary District: No
Darryl Miller/Irvine Water Ranch District: Yes
Chris Norby/Orange County: Not Present

Politics Behind the Orange Curtain

That's right, we in Westminster are proud that our representative - Midway City Sanitary District, voted NO.
Thanks to the board members who did what was RIGHT and not politically expedient and voted "yes." Thank you!
Kudos to Bill Dalton, Mayor of Garden Grove.
I second the "Kudos" to Mr. Dalton, Mayor of GG.
Anon 6:30,
You sound like one of those wasteful directors who earned $212.50 for last nights chance to screw OC taxpayers.
And if reports of last nights "re-vote" are acurate, this might not be a done deal.
The initial vote was 16 yes, 6 no, and Rosie abstained. After pressure, Rosie stated she wanted to vote yes and a 2nd vote was taken and the 66% theshold was met.
Unfortunatly, a "motion to reconsider", the legal term for a do-over can only be made by the NO voters. So unless one of the brave six who voted to protect taxpayers called for the reconsideration, 2nd vote should not have happened. If challenged it would seem that this decison could be set aside.
This was a cluster f... The board should have been upfront with real costs and taken an appoach that tied fee's to direct decision of the board. Accountabilty for sound fiscal decisions would gain public support.
Nobody was against OCSD doing the very best job possible, we know there are costs associated with processing and protecting the environment. That said, to tie the hands of future boards with a plan to "spread" out year plans that may or may not occur is not a good approach. And this plan does not take into account likely AQMD actions or odor issues/claims from Costa Mesa residents. Both of these issues arise from additonal processing based on GWRS and secondary treatment.
Since she was to busy to show up to save rate payers, like myself, money, I will be to busy to show up to walk for her.
Thanks to Harry Sidhu and Dumitru for holding the line against the fee increase and looking out for the ratepayers.
as someone who used to work for christina shea, and is involved in irvine ... i will tell you that she was at irvine's annual police officer of the year dinner. and also coming from someone who's been on her campaigns over the years, i doubt you would have walked for her anyway. i doubt she's sorry for fighting against liberalism and corruption in her own backyard. just my two cents.
Shame on Leslie Daigle for voting yes, and for prefacing her vote with the comment "This vote represents not just my vote, but that of everyone of my fellow councilmembers, who all urged a yes vote"
Newport Beach Councilmembers Edward Selich, Keith Curry and Steven Rosansky should all be run out of town come election time.
Kudo's to Harry Sidhu and Jon Dumitru, who each voted no at the last meeting, and who both voted no last night.
Sorry to say that Christina Shea voted yes at the last meeting and failed to attend last night or send an alternate.

Attending the Police Officer of the Year dinner "fights against liberalism and corruption" how? The OCSD rate increase directly impacts Irvine residents, but she was too worried getting a photo op with cops in an election year to actually help out. Where was her alternate RINO Choi? Same dinner. It is the same old story, they get elected and they forget why people put them there and think that it is because they are something special.
