Fans of Ken Maddox for Sheriff Launches Facebook Site

Posted by: Tomahawk | 02/06/2008 9:45 PM

Ken Maddox.JPGYes, one of Ken Maddox's supporters hipped me to their Facebook site in which they are making the case as to why the former Assemblyman from the 68th District and peace officer would be the most acceptable choice among all stake holders as the next Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.  You have to be a member of this online community to view the site.

I am under no illusion that Ken Maddox is publicly perceived as the dark horse in this appointment process.  The pundits predict that Acting Sheriff Jack Anderson is the candidate that will likely be appointed by the Board of Supervisors to serve out the rest of Mike Carona's third term.

Anyway, Maddox's supporters asked that I give their candidate a fair shake and I have agreed.  Here are some of Maddox's records from his time in the California State Assembly, which was forwarded to me:

Ken Maddox was the Republican Caucus lead on the corruption investigation into unlawful practices at the Department of Insurance.  Following the Northridge earthquake, insurers reached a settlement with the Department of Insurance.  Millions of dollars were deposited into a special account at the direction of Insurance Commissioner Quackenbush.  Much of that money was spent by his top deputies to their own benefit.

He oversaw the issuing of subpoenas, questioning of witnesses and other legal matters on behalf of his Republican colleagues.

Ken also served on the Legislature's oversight committee on the California Highway Patrol.

He also served as a California peace officer for 17 years working in jail operations, court operations, patrol, DARE, and conducted background investigations on police candidates.

Public Safety Bills

Author Ken Maddox

AB 415 Amber Alert

AB 267 Forensic Identification.  Requires person convicted of any felony to submit a DNA sample.

AB 1764 Child Abandonment.  Also known as the "Safe Haven" law.

AB 20 School Security Training.  Grant program for school security training

AB 665 Obscene Material.  Increases penalties for possession of child porn.

AB 340 Juvenile Offenders.  Requires prosecution of juvenile gang members should they commit a violent felony.

AB 115  Law Enforcement Funding.  Appropriates 100,000,000 in general fund dollars for the  COPS program.

AB 322 Motion to suppress confession. This bill makes it more difficult for a criminal defendant to withdraw (suppress) a confession.

AB 845 Cease and Desist.  Allows the Insurance Commissioner to issue cease and desist orders for unlawful insurance practices.

He wasn't a co author on these bills but actually worked them through the Legislature.
So there it is, Red County readers can decide for themselves who they want to lobby for in this appointment process.  One thing is certain though, Ken Maddox is not likely to get the support from his former employee who is occupying the 1st Supervisorial District.

Facebook? I'm willing to bet most of the people that have a say in who our next Sheriff will be don't even know what "Facebook" is. What's his slogan? Rock the vote! My kid gets on Facebook.

The people who make this decision won't be surfing the net looking at Facebook profiles. They'll be evaluating the candidates based on their law enforcement resumes. Maddox comes up woefully short in comparrison and he also failed to get himself elected during a regular campaign either. So maybe he's going Facebook because its free and doesn't take much effort.

I am voting for Maddox said:

Maddox? Thanks for throwing that out Tomahawk, for what it is worth. As for this statement: "The pundits predict that Acting Sheriff Jack Anderson is the candidate that will likely be appointed by the Board of Supervisors to serve out the rest of Mike Carona's third term." That is some scary stuff right there. More time to cover up all those unplesantries happening in the jail, 600K pay outs to dead inmates fathers, Taser parties etc. Who are these all knowing pundits? Humor me. Anderson is a self avowed Carona prodigy. If that happens I'm sure most (particularly the LA folks) will be convinced Orange County is indeed the bastion of corruption. Heck. They would probably be right.

In the polls in the newspapers, Maddox doesn't even garner a few sympathy votes among current deputies. If the only photo of him is this one from twenty years ago, that's because he hasn't been doing anything that will get him the votes or even an appointment. One more example of dreaming in the Trannie group. Pull some no name to run for a seat they aren't qualified for. Van, can't you find someone that can actually qualify to be appointed?

Insider said:

I'm not a Trannie, but I think you're definitely a partisan for Janet just for attacking Van Tran without justification.

It's not up to Tran to find a replacement for Sheriff, that's up to the Board of Supes. Go back to OJ if you're just going to rant against the "machine".

C'mon guys. Ken is just reaching out to the kids who used to go to his DARE puppet shows...

Don't paint him with the same brush said:

Jack Anderson is not a self-avowed Carona prodigy. He is loyal to the Orange County Sheriff's Dept. and the County of Orange as a whole, not just to one man.

He has always done a good job, no matter who his boss was.

And he will continue to good things for Orange County. I like what he's done already in just the past few weeks like Cop-Link and agreeing with the BOS re: the independant review board. Keep up the good work Sheriff!

I welcome him as our Acting Sheriff, and look forward to the day when he gets the position on a more permanent basis.
