Board of Supes Votes Down Grindle/Moorlach Campaign Finance Proposal
Posted by: Jubal | 02/05/2008 3:18 PM
The Board of Supes voted 3-2 against Sup. John Moorlach's proposal -- developed with Shirley Grindle -- for a new TIN CUP ordinance, and a new regulator county agency to implement it.
Supervisor Bill Campbell joined Sup. Moorlach in supporting it. Supervisors Chris Norby, Pat Bates and Janet Nguyen voted against it.
Political free speech lives to fight another day, and kudos to Norby, Bates and Nguyen to voting to against tow examples of bad public policy.
I'm too wiped out to recap the Board debate, but it's worth watching online.

TIN CUP 2, The 5th Floor

THANK YOU Pat Bates, Janet Nguyen and Chris Norby.
I cannot imagine what Bill Campbell was thinking. And can you say John McCain Fiengold Moorlach?
This vote comes as another loss for team Moorlach. John has been forced to modify his issues in an extreme fashion or in a number of cases suffer out right losses. The constant and consistent theme echoed on the fifth floor and in the community is that John's staff is ill-equipped to successfully manuver in a political environment. He is defintely risking a great deal by maintaining his current staff. John is a loyal guy and admirably protects his staff. But like any good manager or corporate executive there comes a time when one has to shake things up and make some very tough choices. Unfortunately that time has come for John because John's image on the 5th floor has been severely compromised by the demeanor of his staff.
I agree with Anon 5:00. I empathize with John's idea of trying to bring in a bunch of smart people who aren't necessarily politically inclined but smarts in one area doesn't translate to smarts in another.
I'm sure Mario is a great law professor and he shouldn't have quit his day job. He isn't equipped for this type of work.
I saw Shirley Grindle berating Janet yesterday in her office after the vote. Grindle must be very disappointed in Janet.
Good for Janet. I'm proud of her, and I'm glad we have a Board that isn't afraid of Shirley's shadow.
I thought I saw Shirley walk out of the Board meeting with her tail between her legs.
