AD71 Watch: Miller, Blais Close In Cash-On-Hand
Posted by: Jubal | 02/01/2008 2:59 PM
I'll not yet wade into the contretemps over whether Neil Blais is inflating his campaign report, but for now stick to reporting what the two campaigns reported for the period July 1 through December 31, 2007:
Neil Blais
Contributions 7/1/07 - 12/31/07: $120.683.42
Expenditures 7/1/07 - 12/31/07: $104.165.68
Total contributions 1/1/07 - 12/31/07: $358.439.42
Total expenditures 1/1/07 - 12/31/07: $149.786.29
Cash-on-hand: $232,137.83
Here's the bizarre part of Blais' report: On June 28, he loaned his campaign $64,597.42. Six months later, on December 30, he loaned himself the exact same amount: $64,597.42.
That's an odd number to loan your campaign. It's even stranger to loan your campaign that amount twice.
Jeff Miller
Contributions 7/1/07 - 12/31/07: $92,576.24
Expenditures 7/1/07 - 12/31/07: $112,811.09
Total contributions 1/1/07 - 12/31/07: $364,628.23
Total expenditures 1/1/07 - 12/31/07: $156,930.28
Cash-on-hand: $226,389.16

Blais shows $132,000 in debt.
Miller shows $18,000 in debt.
Miller: funds in tack
Blais: Daddy wanted to run for the Assembly
So who cares if Blais wants to spend his own money on a campaign. Last time I checked, the Republican Party was about freedom of choice with your own money without government intrusion.
It appears that the Miller camp and Jubal seem to think that doesn't apply to the 71st Assembly race. That it is wrong to commit ones own money to their individual pursuits. Have Miller and Jubal become democrats?
Also, if you look at Harry Sidhu's and Mimi Walters' statements for their race, they both loaned themselves $100K back in the beginning. So is there a double standard here?
Again, it appears that the Miller machine continues to spin this into something it isn't. The real spin is the downward spiral of the Miller/Gilliard machine.
And at the end of the day, no matter how you slice it, Blais has more cash available to spend than Miller.
Blais took a 2nd out on his house to get his loan money, then he put it into his campaign account and took it right back out again. It is quite obvious he cannot afford to spend that money. Blais lists over $130,000 in debt compared to Miller's $18,000.
Harry and Walters and both very weathly. That's the difference, Karl.
Look at Debt-
You are presupposing his right to do whatever he wants with his money and his life in a free society. I have to laugh at how quickly you so called "conservative" republicans forget that a bedrock principle of the party is "property rights", whether real property, monetary or other wise when it doesn't suit your own political agenda. And who cares if Harry and Mimi are wealthy? Just because they are millionaires that provides sufficient justification? Its ok for millionaires to make free choices on how they live their lives, but it is not ok for a middle class American? Talk about a double standard.
Again, it makes no difference what Mr. Blais does with HIS MONEY, and only a Democrat would even question his right to do whatever he wants to do with HIS MONEY. It sounds like you, Miller, Gilliard and a lot of other Miller cronies actaully believe that "government" should tell Mr. Blais how he should spend HIS MONEY.
So apparently Miller and Gilliard's real agenda is to promote the agenda of a Democrat. LMAO
"So who cares if Blais wants to spend his own money on a campaign" Perhaps young Blais?
There was some fool years ago out in San Bernardino Co. that ran for Congress and openly told people that he was using his daughter's college fund. He lost by a slim margine...I forget his name. Well, in anycase, it isn't my business but doesn't show how careless he is with is own money? Do I really want the guy up in Sacramento tinkering with the taxpayer money when he is so reckless with his own?
Harry, Diane, and Mimi have the money to burn at night. Obviously if that was the case here--it would have stayed in the account and not paid back. Who do you think you are fooling?
To Look at College Fund-
You are right, it isn't any of your business. But you make a statement that Blais is taking money from his son's college, an innuendo unsubstantiated by fact. Are you his tax man? Are you his banker? Are you his book keeper? Do you have access to Blais's personal financial portfolio? Do you have access to Blais's business records? How do you know how much money he has or doesn't have?
And I know you can't answer those questions so to accuse someone of being reckless when you have no facts to support it just goes to show how low that Miller and Gilliard will stoop to try and salvage a campaign that is sinking faster that the Titanic.
Karl Rove, I agree. I would not care about my competition's finances in minute detail unless I am feeling the "heat". Neil has been leading this campaign in large margin since the day Steven Choi dropped out from this race.
