OC/DC-- Sunshine State to US: We're Somebody

How appropriate that last weekend we watched The Jerk, staring OC native and comedic legend Steve Martin, the classic movie where he declares to Jackie Mason, he has made it and is now "somebody" because he is listed in the newest edition of the phone book.
The same is true for the Golden State. Not that we weren't anybody before.
But California's primary election positioning is generating some interesting buzz with commentators across the spectrum saying: we're somebody. To wit:
Last night, (again, I know, I know) on NPR's Marketplace, a commentator coldly laid out the facts comparing California to Iowa and other early primary states. California's ag industry output is twice Iowa's and her manufacturing output is more than Michigan and South Carolina--combined. While I don't agree with the author's premise the California should be first, it's an interesting thought. The commentary is here.
Today, Chris Lehane, one of the Clinton-Gore MVP's of damage control now enjoying salad days in Marin, writes in today's Politico about the state's role in shaking out the Dem field. All fine and good until you see that Drudge is reporting Edwards may be out which means the same result has happened prior to California's big day in the sun.
Alas, good reading nonetheless.
