Orange County Young Democrats and Orange County Young Republicans Endorse "No" Position on Santa Ana Measure D and Proposition 93
The Orange County Young Republicans and their Democratic counterparts announce their opposition for tampering with term limits for Santa Ana's City Council and the State Legislature.
Orange County, CA - The Orange County Young Democrats and The Orange County Young Republicans have voted to endorse NO on Santa Ana Measure D and Proposition 93. This is the first time in the history of the two organizations that they have ever made the same endorsement on an issue let alone two.
Measure D will appear on the February ballot in Santa Ana. Currently Santa Ana city council members can serve up to two four year terms on the city council. Measure D would extend the term limits to three four year terms. Measure D would overturn the term limits that Santa Ana residents approved last year when they approved Measure BB.
Prop 93 is a special loophole that benefits incumbent politicians by extending their political careers while limiting future legislators time in office. Proponents of 93 say that this measure will shorten the amount of time in office legislators will have. What 93's supporters don't tell you is that 42 termed out legislators will actually get more time in office.
"Though our two organizations have always been opposed to each other on the issues, we have come together to oppose these measures," said Jason Bensley, the Chair of the Orange County Young Democrats. "Our two organizations have come together in a spirit of bipartisanship in order to stand up for the term limit laws that voters have previously approved."
"Prop 93 is nothing more than an illusion that will benefit a few career politicians who are desperate to extend their personal political power" said Shawn Fago, the President of the Orange County Young Republicans. "I am thrilled to know that the OCYDs are taking a stand with the OCYRs to oppose a thinly veiled political power grab."
The Orange County Young Democrats are an active part of local Democratic politics and strive to encourage progressive political activism and participation among young people ages 14 to 35.
The Orange County Young Republicans are an organization consisting of young professionals who are committed to a common sense approach to politics, low taxation and limited government. For more information about the organization visit www.ocyr.org

Shawn
this is hilarious! Good job in getting the OC Young Dems to bite on this bait.
I wonder what the CDP thinks of this.
