Norby Lists Some Sheriff Wannabees, Including A New Name

Posted by: Jubal | 01/17/2008 4:49 PM

Supervisor Chris Norby sends out a weekly e-mail newsletter called "Norby Notes."

This week's edition just came over the transom and the lead article is Chris's ruminations on the Carona saga, including the succession-and-replacement process.

In the final paragraph, Chris lists the names of those who've thus far expressed an interest:

Those already expressing strong interest include Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters, Former OC Lieutenant Bill Hunt, LA Sheriff's Deputy Ralph Martin, now-Acting Sheriff Jack Anderson and Anaheim Deputy Chief of Police Craig Hunter. Retired OC Assistant Sheriff Doug Storm and Retired Newport Beach Police Chief Bob McDonell have also been mentioned. And there will be more. I'm hoping we can have a new sheriff within 2-3 months.

It's interesting because Anaheim Deputy Police Chief Craig Hunter is a name that hasn't cropped up before.

I know this will fall on deaf ears because I suspect Moorlach and Norby are going to pick a puppet (Martin). But of those listed which ONE stood up and took a chance with his career. Stood toe to toe with Mike Carona, challenged his ethics etc. Just one and that is Bill Hunt. Happy Jack is not respected by the staff and he knows it. Paul Walters supported Carona this last election remember. Ralph Martin is an outsider and that it what got us into this mess to begin with. Recall Carona was a Marshal, an outsider. The others showed no interest until now. Where were you last year? I want Bill Hunt. He is the only one who with insider knowledge and a plan.

This message was approved and paid for by Bill Hunt for Sheriff.

OC DEP said:

No Bill did'nt pay for it, I like him and want him to be my sheriff.

The previous Huntinesta was brain-washed by Bully Bill.

Walters openly endorses Carona and now wants the job? isn't that Jack Anderson's job to be the Carony? Santa Ana is a crime ridden city, we don't want the rest of OC to follow that lead. No Thanks

I found Chief Hunter's bio on the Anaheim.net web page. He is very credible.

They all look credible on paper.

You are right OC Dep. No wonder they are showing interest now. Like somebody said elsewhere, It's easy to waive your resume around after the fight is over and you have nothing to lose

Bill Hunt has inside knowledge that is true. In fact take a look at this piece by Dave Lopez in 2005 when Bill Hunt was chief of police in the little hamlet of San Clemente. On Nov 30, 2005 Bill Hunt was caught by CBS news reporter Dave Lopez giving special treatment to a very intoxicated supporter of his who was stopped for suspected drunk driving in San Clemente. Is that the leadership we want? More political favortism. hasnt this county seen enough! Chief Paul Walters was the original person to stand up against Carona back in 1998. Commander Martin is also a well qualified individual. Food for thought.

Back in December 2003, Bill Hunt asked Mike Carona for an endorsement. I guess Carona wasn't too ethically challenged back then to ask for an endorsement. By that time, Haidl and Jaramillo had already done their damage to OCSD so what gives?

That's an interesting article. Can someone explain how Schroeder knows the details of what was discussed when he wasn't even present?

In the interests of justice and safety of Orange County's children, adults and families, when will the OC Board of Supervisors do the right thing and STOP all the political grandstanding in selecting a new OC Sheriff? Politics is the evil force that has allowed badges to be sold, free get out of jail cards, lowering qualifications for Asst. Sheriff appointments and judicial "favors", all because an elected REPUBLICAN was Sheriff.

I still cannot understand how a Catholic, Republican attorney can act as the political advisor to both the OC Sheriff and the OC District Attorney, Michael J. Schroeder, Esq., whose wife stays employed with the OC District Attorney, while each and every state and local elected official and government agency responsible for enforcing the fair administration of justice and due process, stands by and observes, allowing EVIL politics to destroy anyone who speaks out about this obvious legal, moral, ethical and financial conflict of interest.

The OC Board of Supervisors, have been allowed to play politics for many years while children were sexually abused by employees of the politically-connected Diocese of Orange were never prosecuted by the OC District Attorney, employees participating in "protected activity" have had their careers ruined and politicians continued to abuse their authority as elected officials returning favors to the politically-connected, ignoring their duty to guarantee the guaranteed administration of justice, to all persons, not just the Republicans.

Challenge to the OC Board of Supervisors:

PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING...

* You have an opportunity to set a new direction for OC law enforcement so ALL persons in Orange County have access to law enforcement, the fair administration of justice and the DA's services, not just the rich, famous and politically-connected.

* Your actions in the next few months have the ability to STOP and ENABLE corrupt politicians involved in OC's law enforcement in the future.

* Dedicated law enforcement officials who perform day after day, free of corruption, wrongdoing and political paybacks, deserve to be rewarded for placing the safety of all OC residents at their highest priority, despite the corrupt POLITICIANS that have destroyed morale and the public's trust.

Thanks again to the public officials still believing that the oath they have taken to uphold the laws of the U.S. Constitution must be protected at all costs. To the ENABLERS of corruption, you must be held accountable. Those wishing to defame, criticize or discount opinions, privately or publicly, please have the courage and decency to sign your name or send your private comments to me directly at bodkind@hotmail.com.

Craig Hunter and Roger Baker illegally fired Stellar Anaheim Police Officer Steve Nolan and an Orange County Jury awarded Nolan $340,000 for wages. I believe the Orange County jury. I believe in free speech and democracy. I do not believe Craig Hunter. Craig Hunter should find a job out of law enforcement. Officers under Hunter's command are either on trial or convicted for felony rape or beating women. Bradley Stewart Wagner charged with rape of a woman while on patrol at Kraemer Blvd., Jason Rosewarne convicted of raping a girl in the City's Explorer Scout Program, Peter Henry Castro convicted of beating a woman in a Fullerton parking lot. How exactly did Hunt "know" what he "knew" about Carona, before the rest of us did?

Did he use his crystal ball?

Or was he a little closer to scum like Jaramillo than he wants us to know???

Hunt is not as squeaky clean as the Huntistas try to make us believe.

Plus the tactics he and his henchmen have used on Chief Walter's ex-wife is unbelievibly lower than low. Seems either a little too desparate or just plain evil to me.

Another OC Deputy said:

I think the best man for the job is Jack Anderson. Hunt's supporters act like they are just too fanatical, pressuring the rest of us to get on board with them. Talk about some strong arm antics. It's just not right. We want to do our work without getting harrassed.

Those of us for Anderson, keep our head down and get the job done. We know it's not about a popularity contest but the best person for the job. Hang in there Sheriff Anderson, don't let the fanatics get you down! You have the support of many. We know you are the real deal.

I agree with you. Hunt is using his jack-booted buddies in the jail to exert pressure on other deputies to get their support. If they don't, they suddenly get reprimands and transfers based on bogus complaints. I keep seeing it on a daily basis and it is getting worse. Interesting about using the ex-wife. Seems they tried to use the ex-husband of Walters current wife to call the board and lie but he wouldn't cooperate and said there was no fact to the rumors they are trying to spread. For a guy who touts himself as being ethical, Hunt is no better than his mentor, Carona.
