Janet Appointing Man Behind Hinky Hit Piece To Airport Commission

I saw on the Board of Supervisors Jan. 8 agenda that Sup. Janet Nguyen is appointing her staffer Nick Lecong to the Orange County Airport Commission.
Which reminded me of that controversial independent expenditure against Carlos Bustamante during last year's 1st Supe District special election. Remember? The IE that took a vehicle for Lincoln Club funds to help John Duong's Irvine mayoral campaign, modified its name to Orange County Healthcare, Education and Neighborhood Leaders PAC and used it against the Lincoln Club's endorsed supervisor candidate?
This was the PAC that spent twice as much as it collected in contributions and whose report listed nearly $6,000 in debt to Riverside-based United Press Works. It's final campaign report in July showed zero money in the bank -- meaning the printer got stiffed for $6,000. Except when I called the printer this summer, the owner could not recall being owed any money (and being owed $6,000 isn't something printers forget), meaning the person/persons behind the IE most likely arranged to pay the printer off-the-books so it didn't show up on the campaign report (which is illegal). I wrote a detailed post on the whole smelly matter back in August.
The whole matter was (and is) Hinky with-a-capital-H from beginning to end.
So how does Nick Lecong, Janet's prospective appointee to the Airport Commission, figure into this? Lecong was the bag man for this IE. Lecong forked over $4,000 of his own moolah for the IE and put the arm on a Garden Grove developer for the remaining $2,000 (Lecong used to be a Garden Grove Planning Commissioner - appointed by then GG Councilwoman Janet Nguyen).
Hinkiness seems to follow Lecong. Take this contribution report from the 1st SD special election. Nick Lecong's son and daughter each maxed out to Janet for $1,500. Suhch sizable contributions were a bit unusual since the daughter was an office assistant for the County of Orange and the son was a sales associate for Fry's Electronics -- not professions one generally writing $1,500 campaign contribution checks.
I called Nick Lecong back in February 2007 to ask if he was the directing persona behind the IE mailer/phone banks, and if not, then who asked him to donate $4,000. He literally began coughing into the phone, then hung up and refused to answer my subsequent phone calls.
Lecong was planning to move up from Garden Grove Planning Commission by running for City Council in 2006, but later abandoned those plans (and ultimately the Planning Commission) when a prominent city insider reminded Lecong that he lived in Huntington Beach, not Garden Grove.
Lecong endorsed Stanton Councilman Dave Shawver's stint as the government employee unions candidate against John Moorlach in 2006.
I'm sure Mr. Lecong will make a fine appointment to the Airport Commission.

The stated mission of the Airport Commission includes making studies and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on any matter pertaining to airports or air transportation. Is this a political job?
By its charter, the Airport Commission should have studied the technical requirements of future aircraft before the BOS gave the City of Newport a veto over any runway extension at JWA in late 2006, but apparently did not. The Airport Commission should have studied our potential air travel needs in conjunction with the negotiations setting the passenger caps at JWA. The commission should have been heavily involved in selecting the new airport design including the number of gates about to be built so as to insure that we were getting the maximum out of the airport's limited space. Instead, the supervisors chose the least intensive of the options.
The Airport Land Use Commission (a different group)still must make land use plans for the area around JWA based on noise contours developed in the early 1985's because there has been no new new airport master planning.
The Airport Commission should be looking at how OC air travel needs for the future will be met. It has not done so since the El Toro fight when the commission majority tagged along with the pro-El Toro choices made by the BOS.
Orange County is not making objective studies about airports and air travel. Decisions about our airport are primarily political. It should be no surprise if political operatives are appointed to the Airport Commission.
Wow !!! The back door dealing and constant flirting with illegal activities doesn't seem to end with Janet. She appears to be overly abitious and has no regard for the importance of character.Illegal campaign funds, unecessary office remodel, improper use of County budgeted positions, supports the County Treasurer etc.Is this the person we want on our Board of Supervisors?
Janet Nguyen is a ticking political time-bomb, and anyone who supports her will be in the sphere of impact when it goes off.
Janet:
You shall stop to appoint your bad man to serve the public ASAP.
We invite all Redcounty OCblogs readers to find out for yourself about the another dark side of Nick Lecong .

Does anyone know if he still lives in Huntington Beach? If so how could he be a First District appointment?
You know what they said: "Birds of the same feather flock together!"
Nick Le Cong appeals to Janet Nguyen's paranoia and insecurity. He knows how to work her weaknesses and exploit them. He is Janet's Rasputin. A very dangerous man who will one day take Janet Nguyen down. This may happen sooner rather than later.
There is some public information providing this person's, Nick Lecong's, background at the website of the Superior Court of California, County of Orange.

Each person can make his/her own judgment, no pun intended.
Well, I guess not one other commissioner in Orange County has ever maxed out on a candidate in their life. I bet the blog posters on this site wish they had their little hands on $1600, which would be impossible with their low paying state jobs.
Nick LeCong moved to Garden Grove and bought a house, and then was appointed Planning Commissioner there. Unlike some posters who are still living with their parents! He was a fine commissioner, better than some current commissioner who is being investigated as we speak. So get your facts straight.
In addition, I remember that he was one of the first people to support Van Tran for Assembly, and even ran a fundraiser for him. So, I guess the money is just no good when Janet collects it, but it's good enough for Van. Tell your tired attack dogs to not be so hypocritical- this same tired issue came up last month when Moorlach tried the same thing with his staffer. Anyone doing any research there? Or what about when Bates did the same? Oooh the hypocrisy on this site.
The previous poster misses the point of Jubal's post. In fact, he/she avoided the entire issue of Lecong being the bagman for a shady IE that probably violated campaign law.
Jubal neglected to mention Lecong endorse Democrat Jose Solorio for Assembly. What a great team player!
Bump Nice Try.
I take it that Anon 9:49 failed any class that has to do with logic as well as ethics if he/she ever did take one.
Lecong bought a Condo in GG, proof was found that his primary residence, a fat house, was still in HB so he decided not to run for city council and he resigned from the Planning Commission after a horrendous performance of six months as a J Nguyen yes man to become an advisor aka money launderer for J Nguyen.
The guy stinks and Jubal just pointed out what everyone already knows.
I say let Nguyen appoint the fool to as many positions as she wants. It'll just reflect her poor judgement and lax morals which are fine qualities for an OC Supervisor.
