It's cheaper to build casinos than airports

Californians are asked to vote on four ballot measures to allow expanded Indian gambling casinos and produce more Indian funds for the state. Opposition to the measures comes from Las Vegas.
The El Toro Info Site notes that Las Vegas is the #2 air travel destination from the L.A. Basin. Vegas-bound flights use up a lot of airport capacity but bring little value to L.A.
Local casinos could cut into future airport demand and cost the taxpayers nothing.

Well, I gotta admit - that's a new angle!
Len,
That is the single most original pro-casino argument I have ever heard. The argument seems like bollocks to me - much of the SNA-LAS casino traffic is off peak, like Sunday night-- but I want to applaud such solid and out-of-the-box thinking that's even better than what I told my daughters about my last pro-casino vote:
"It's about a bunch of lying, cheating thieves. I'm voting for the locals."

Lenster,
ya need to get out more ya know. People don't just go to Vegas for slot machines. They go there for hedonism and to have some hanky panky while away from their spouse. Remember, what happens in Las Vegas, but stays in Las Vegas! ;)You don't ever here what happens in Barona.....oh never mind.
Since you are so worried about L.A. having extra air capacity, why you were so strident in your opposition to reusing El Toro as an airport. That would have added lots of capacity. You seem really confused. Sounds like you need to go live it up in Las Vegas yourself. :)
