Buying the farm in Orange County will get a little more expensive in 2008.
The Sheriff -Coroner -- which will be Mike Carona for a few hours on Monday -- is asking the Board of Supervisors to hike the fee for "recovering and keeping dead bodies" from $300 to $318.
Talk about death and taxes.
The cost of living in Orange County keeps going up, but so does the cost of dying. According to the staff report, when the county first establish a fee for grabbing and storing stiffs back in November 1991, the fee was $119.
In February 2003, it was raised to $236.
In August 2006, it was raised again to $300.
Now it's going to $318.
That's about a 270% increase over 16 years.
No word on whether the fee increase also applies to the recovery and storage of dead political careers.
