Another Hurdle For Janet
Posted by: Jubal | 01/18/2008 2:06 PM
Supervisor Janet Nguyen has had a good week or so, what with Joe Dunn opting not to challenge her and the state Court of Appeals rejecting rival Trung Nguyen court challenge to her 3-vote special election win.
But there's a headache on the horizon.
I posted on Jan. 3 that Janet put her in her name for an early endorsement by the OC GOP Central Committee (along with four other elected), as members of the party's Local Elected Officials Association can do.
Normally, that means clear sailing to an early endorsement (my earlier post explains the process), unless a Central Committee member pulls your name from the list by the deadline, which in this case was Jan. 12.
As Janet's luck would have it, someone did: Tim Whitacre.
Tim's not part of Assemblyman Van Tran's operation, but he does disagree with the party endorsing one Republican over another. Although he supported Pat Bates, Tim argued in spring of 2006 against the OC GOP's endorsement of Pat Bates over Cassie DeYoung in the 5th Supervisor District race. I don't happen to agree with Tim on this point, but there it is.
The upshot?: in order to obtain the early endorsement, Janet will have to obtain a two-thirds affirmative vote from the Central Committee this coming Monday. I have no idea whether or not she has the votes to do that, and it will be interesting to see skilled operatives Mike Schroeder and Adam Probolsky -- who worked together to get Mike Carona over a similar two-thirds hurdle in 2006 -- working on opposite sides this time around.
It's never boring, is it?

"Given Janet Nguyen toxic personality and pungent character"
Now that's first-rate invective...
Anonymous aka Luong Viet:
I warned you about the personal attacks. Adios.
Given her strong endorsements for this from Chairman Baugh and from Congressman Ed Royce, among others, Janet should get the votes.
Hold on here Jubal. How is it a "personal attack" when it is the opinion, and not a false satatement of and about someone? It is what it is. You need to explain your standard.

Luong Viet:
I don't mean to be rude, but are you dense?
A personal attack is a personal attack. I could care less whether or not it is "just" an "opinion." It's been against the rules of the comments section since this blog started three and a half years ago.
Been Around:
You claim: Given her strong endorsements for this from Chairman Baugh and from Congressman Ed Royce, among others, Janet should get the votes.
This isn't necessarily the case. A few years ago, Ed Royce personally appeared before the central committee to ask for an endorsement for a candidate for city council. Mike (or Mark?) Clesceri(sp?) and the central committee refused to endorse.
This isn't going to be an easy process for Janet.
After her win with the appeals court and her endorsement from Lincoln Club, the Central Committee should be a cakewalk. If the Central Committee couldn't come up with two words to Carona during the past few months, why would they pull an endorsement from another incumbent Republican? It is time for Republicans to pull together to ensure that the Board stays Republican. Once one seat goes, say goodbye to the 4th District as well.
Anonymous,
Love your scare tactic. Doubt it will work, though. Nothing is a cakewalk for Janet Nguyen. You should know that by now. Just tell her to look in the mirror and you have the answer why evrything is a struggle for her.
I know we have a water shortage but we don't have a decent republican to replace Janet? Her name must be permanently removed from the endorsing committee roster.
It's funny hearing all of the Republican presidential candidates evoke Ronald Regan, but local Republicans do not follow his prescribed 11th Commandment.
"Thou shalt not speak ill of ANY fellow Republican."
Yes, Anon.11:23, "..... ANY FELLOW Republican". Reagan meant REAL Republican here. Janet acts and smells like member of the INDEPENDENT PARTY than anywhere close of being our fellow Republican. Ask her friends....... oops! She doesn't have any.......... except, maybe paid bloggers aka "political consultants". Janet is the one who initiated fraudulant recount against our fellow Republican who had won the supe election by 7 votes.Think before you speak..... unless you are Janet herself.
The CRA has not taken a position in this race. Any real member of CRA would not use the CRA name before a vote on an endorsement is made.
CRA Republican:
I'm sorry, but you really should come up with a new handle. Your's can give the impression you speak for the CRA, which you don't.
I think it would be better all around if you found a different pseudonym.
Gee Jubal, aren't you stretching that a bit? He/she doesn't give the impression to anyone that reads your blog that he/she speaks for the CRA any more than I give the impression that I am the real Karl Rove.
Or do you want me to change mine as well?
Jubal, you've asked me to change from "cra" to another handle name and I am now using " cra republican"...... which does not represent the view of entire cra organization as i.e.from "George Bush" to "Bush republican" . Now, if you insist still I need a another handle name, allow me to use "CRA Unit President" since that is my real title. Thanks, Jubal.
Karl:
No, but I've been getting complaints from the CRA.
Anon 12:48, our conversation had nothing to do with cra endorsements on this race. I was making a personal statement that we need to elect a RESPECTABLE republican leader to the office... which most of republicans would agree.
