1st Supe District Watch: Dina Nguyen Pulls Papers To Challenge Janet Nguyen

Posted by: Jubal | 01/22/2008 2:22 PM

Dina_Nguyen.jpgAt last night's OC GOP Central Committee meeting, Tim Whitacre mentioned that another GOP candidate would be entering the 1st Supervisor District race, pointing to that as a reason for the Central Committee to hold off on an early endorsement of Sup. Janet Nguyen.

I later heard rumors that candidate would by Garden Grove Councilwoman Dina Nguyen, an ally of Assemblyman Van Tran.

Sure enough, Dina Nguyen pulled papers today to run for Supervisor.

I have a call in to Trung Nguyen -- also a Van Tran ally -- for his reaction. Specifically, is he staying in or bowing out.

If the goal is to take out Sup. Janet Nguyen, increasing the number of her opponents is certainly a counter-intuitive strategy.  Such a strategy generally benefits incumbents because it dissipates anti-incumbent sentiment among the multiplicity of candidates.

As it stands, we have an all-Vietnamese candidate field in the 1st Supervisor District.

Is she going to be running on a family values platform?

Dina's ex husbands said:

We won't vote for her.

Flowerszzz said:

GO DINA!

Go Dina! said:

I'd vote for Dina. At least she's pleasant to look at, and talk to.

Dina will do best in Garden Grove as she is the sitting councilwoman who was the top vote-getter in 2006.

At least now we have two female candidates to choose from. On balance, Janet loses with this new equation.

Anonymous said:

Janet will certainly receive Art Pedroza's vote.

Anonymous said:

Go girl. Since you are a single mom and have three kids to take care that shows characters and determination. You can run on the family platform if you wish. Does Janet have a family to run on the same platform? A lot of doubt.

Anonymous said:

There is a bad blood between Dina and Janet. Janet will pay big time in this race.

In 2005, when Dina was nominated to be a GG planning commissioner Janet as a Vietnamese fellow yanked that nomination. In 2006, when Dina was elected to the GG Council they never worked together in any projects or issues. Dina threw her support to Trung Nguyen during the special election. The water gets hotter every second now.

Remember, Dina was considered "no name" candidate but she gained top votes over an incumbent and long-time politician in GG. So don't discount her campaign experience.

FUBAR for Janet said:

Here's the problem for Janet with Dina Nguyen in the race:

a. Lost of Garden Grove voters
b. Lost of female voters
c. Lost of Viet voters

Dina will gain voters who are just tired of both Janet and Trung. Dina also has her own Viet constituency.

Nothing is ordinary or normal in the 1st. So, conventional analysis doesn't apply.

Anonymous said:

I guess this means Trung Nguyen just lost one of his key endorsements.

What a betrayal!

Dumb and dumber said:

Anon,

If Trung loses one endorsement, guess how many votes Janet loses! Learn how to count.

Anonymous said:

One endorsement? Trung's campaign is in a free fall.

How is he going to pay his debt back?

student said:

Anon.11:59, It's your Janet's campaign that is in a free fall! I am sorry, someone just told me that she has already crashed on the pavement. THE END.

Not so Fast... said:

I wouldn't be so sure that Andy Quach will support her over Trung Nguyen.

Little Saigon Watch...the real one said:

You never know at this point. Andy Quach might pull papers now...you know he can't beat Margie Rice. All of the "trannies" might pull papers. Personally I am holding out in the hope that the Honorable Truong "Tomahawk" Diep will run.

jaime said:

"Any one is better than Janet" is the mood in this town.

Anonymous said:

Oh no, it's TRANNIES GONE WILD!!!

Andy Qwok Speaks said:

Anyone but THAT Janet Nguyen, please! She's on my "you know what" list.

The Captain said:

Does Janet have a family to run on the same platform? A lot of doubt.

Janet has three dogs. At least she did a few months ago (check out her old bio courtesy of the way back machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20070210002013/www.janetnguyen.com/index.cfm?page=2).

Hopefully nothing has happened to her dogs. I wonder if she treats them like children and dresses them up in sweaters.

cra republican said:

I think Dina and Trung are both fine candidates to replace Janet and they will have my support.

redperegrine said:

Hey CRA, how can they both have your support? Taking toadyism to a new level?

cra republican said:

Red Peregrine, lost in desert again? "I support both good candidates" mean that they are my top 2 choices to replace Janet so far....

DINA NGUYEN FOR SUPERVISOR said:

cra republican, thank you for supporting the candidacy of the very honorable Garden Grove Ctiy Councilwoman DINA NGUYEN for Orange County Supervisor of the 1st District of Orange County.

Dina will make you proud that she's your new supervisor because she will Dina has pride in herself because Janet doesn't and anything Janet is doing Dina will do the opposite and that best because then Dina will be a better supervisor because of that.

Please vote for DINA NGUYEN in June!!!

Anonymous said:

This is what Van Tran ally groups want. They just want to make sure Janet lose when Viet voters are split up.

cra republican said:

Anon.9:47, If you are given a perfect opportunity to become a OC Supervisor, you would certainly pull the paper today as well.
Many local politicians feel they can replace unpopular Janet in this primary ...........and personally, Trung or Dina will be our next supervisor.

Anonymous said:

Dear Trannies/Nguyens/Dina's, etc. Supporters.

You might all want to remember that the vote for this supervisor position was done as a special election which doesn't bring out many of the regular voters, but the Viet's pushed hard. This will be done in conjunction with one of the most controversial Presidential elections in recent history. This will bring out ALL those stay-at-homers who are not predominately Vietnamese. So you all may be blowing a lot of smoke for nothing.

Who will be the other non-viet candidates, that will be the real question.

Take a moment to think about that. This is not a foregone conclusion that a Viet will win just because they did during a special election.

Anonymous said:

Yes and if Van Tran doesn't take out any more "vote as a block wall" ads in the Viet papers proving he is promoting the vietnamese race, then there may be a lesser turnout of viets....

Jubal said:

"Dina Nguyen for Surpervisr"

OK, you can't say I didn't warn you about stopping the personal attacks.

Off to the Village of the Banned with you.

Yes let's just take those kids straight out of college get them promoted by their community into a public position for which they have no preparation or experience...let them self-promote themselves on this website and then let's kick them up the ladder to yet another position that they have little preparation or experience for...

What have you been smoking "real"???

cra republican said:

Anon.11:22, I don't mind supporting a non asian candidate for this supervisoral seat.... having said that, Dina has friendly and appealing appearance to non asian voters as well.

DINA NGUYEN FOR SUPERVISOR said:

"Dina has friendly and appealing appearance to non asian voters as well."

That's why the very Honorable Garden Grove City Councilwoman DINA NGUYEN will be elected the the Orange County position of Supervisor on the Board of Supervisors of Orange County because she has cross-over appeal unlike the incumbent lady who does not and will lose because Dina will win!!!!

Viet voter said:

Anon,

So bitter and frustrated with the Trannies, huh? Shame. I guess you were butted off the village. Now you're standing outside throwing rocks. You do sound like Janet Nguyen -- red with envy and jealousy, coupled with a good dose of insecurity. Shame, shame

Who are these people? said:

Anon sounds either like Andrew Do or Matt Harper, if not Tom Bonikowski Nguyen. Where is Janet's husband? You never see the guy. Are they divorce now? Or does he stays at home to blog and attack his wife's/boss's opponents allday?

I know! I know! said:

It's probably Tim Whitacre posing aonymous bloggers. He's just trying to start up something because he doesn't like Janet. Fortunately, we all know that and can see right through him. No dice, Tim.

cra republican said:

Excuse me, I know it's not Tim. Tim Whitacre would NEVER anonymously go after another republican, or someone he disagrees with. Tim is the most respectable, commendable, and honest man that I know. I’m proud that he’s apart of this organization and I hope he gets elected to the Santa Ana City Council this year.

Please take your filth and lies off of this blog and you and your knuckle heads leave him alone.

This Is Getting Sad said:

Instead of talking about folks families and calling other Republicans racists, this debate should be about what is best for our Republican Party and pro-freedom values.

Let's try to elevate this debate out of the gutter...which ever side you are on.

On that note, Dina Nguyen was the only GG Councilmember to vote against the water rate increase last year. That is a good Republican vote.

Anonymous said:

A vote against a water rate increase may not insure that it is a "good republican vote" if you have crumbling water lines and a decaying infrastructure, what do you do, just let it fall to pieces or raise the funds necessary to get it back up to good operating standards?

Oh, what do you do????

Prioritize said:

Yes it does. GOP officials should be prioritizing budgets with public safety and infrastructure coming first.

You don't think Garden Grove has a bunch of social spending and waste that can't be cut? Every city in this county does.

Get real.

I just sat through a State of the City lunch with slides of the trip to China or Korea or some sister-city. Maybe trim back that moderately worthwhile program before you raise rates.

Anonymous said:

"Excuse me, I know it's not Tim."

Umm, it IS Tim who is blogging about himself. He's the only one in this county who does it! Tim Whitacre is a scuzball.

Anonymous said:

Dear Prioritize:

Apparently you are not familiar with the election cycle. You see, I have watched for nearly 50 years our city councils in GG and WM, FV, HB, etc. "move to the moment" meaning that they DON'T DO PRIORITIZATION THEY DON'T DO PLANNING!! They play to the voters and if a rate cut or a vote against a rate increase plays well to the voters then that's what they do. For so many years a local city had deteriorating streets, infrastructure, etc. The entire city was declared "blighted". So now has this taken that taint of "blighted" away from the homes included in that dubious title? No. But it has built a really cool Theater, and the streets are getting repaired. Next its going to build a multi million dollar state of the art Police Station. They did this with a plan of 30 years, however most people know that redevelopment funds go on for as long as there is debt against them. Anyway back to the point, for the previous 50 years what was the City Council busy doing? Were they planning the replacement of streets, water infrastructure? Police stations? Nooo....they were pandering to the public not planning and setting aside $$ for any of this so they could get re-elected time after time. Amazingly, they still continue to get re-elected.

Yes there is a lot of waste at the city level, but some of it is "mandated" by the type of money it is, such as CBDG money. Even the redevelopment money has to have 20% taken off the top for "low cost housing".

But let me tell you another thing, anyone else getting elected as a "good republican" that attempts to plan for the "future" and set money aside for future needs won't get re-elected either. Because they aren't cutting taxes. It's almost enough to turn a good republican like me into a democrat, eewww, excuse me that was a bit extreme....nah, I'll stay a republican and try to keep some long-term relevance in this time of moment by moment spin words and local votes against tax increases.

By the way, what do you suppose will happen if the entire water infrastructure was to begin to crumble piece by piece in say a year? Would the city go bankrupt? Would they have to take out loans and pay interest on that borrowed money to repair the infrastructure? How long would people be without water? how much disruption would be happening on the streets as they were torn up to repair the water lines? how much damage would the flooding cause? Are these things YOU thought about? Since no one has apparently planned for it in the past, are YOU doing anything about it to make sure this doesn't happen?

Just a thought or two.....

Dina,

You go girl...don't listen to the naysayers & the criticism...we all face difficulties in our lives...the important thing is that now is your time...we need to take out Janet!!!

I recently spoke to you when you came to Lan Quoc Nguyen's UCI Poly Sci class...you looked good & were well spoken...

Best wishes to you!!!

Anonymous said:

dina well spoken? is this a joke? I have heard her speak on many occassions and not once did i think she's eloquent or well spoken and everyone in our community will say the same.

Anonymous said:

anon 10:51PM

which community are you talking about? so in your little mind and little community you think janet is a better spokeperson. get real.

Anonymous said:

voting against a water rate increase is not something to brag about Trannies. How will the city make major changes to the infrastructure? the Trannies make it sound like that is such a big accomplishment by one of their own. I guess it is if you have NOTHING else to show for? Look at the long list of Janet's accomplishment and learn to hold your tongue Trannies. Did you read the Nguoi VIet daily news today? Are you embarrassed about your candidate yet? Please pack your bags, take your unqualified Dina and get out of Little Saigon then you can lie about her accomplishment...

Jubal said:

To the author of the previous two comments I just deleted.

Pretending to be a Tranny and a Janet supporter, and then carrying on a phony juvenile debate with yourself is a variation on comment spam. And it will just get deleted.
