Here's an interesting follow-up to my earlier post about a likely Jim Gilchrist run against Loretta Sanchez, to be filed away under "odd couples": Jim Gilchrist is in Iowa campaign for Mike Huckabee.

Now that Huckabee is surging, the inevitable Huckabee beat-down is under way. A portion of the unfriendly fire coming his way has focused on Huckabee's record regarding illegal immigration.

Since Gilchrist has achieved political notoriety for tapping anger over illegal immigration via his Minutemen group, it's unexpected to hear of him not only endorsing Huckabee, but campaigning for him in Iowa.

By the way, I had an interesting conversation today in which a possible scenario was laid out under which Gilchrist could pull off an upset of Rep. Loretta Sanchez if he runs. You can still color me skeptical, but the scenario is plausible.
