Betrayal, Trial, Crucifixion, sound familiar?

For a long time, the "mainstream" media has given Christianity a raw deal. Barely an Easter or Christmas goes by without some trashy "documentary" or article allegedly debunking the Resurrection or Nativity accounts in the Bible. This Christmas time, another brother in Christ, Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, is being treated to regurgitations of the tired old canards.

With Sheriff Carona and this current Firestorm, it is important to realize that this perspective commits a basic logical fallacy: presenting a premise as a conclusion and ALLEGATIONS as FACTS. This is blatantly so with the "journalists" and “triers or fact” in the court of public opinion, which always seem to be cited in the local media.

It has long been shown that journalists as a whole are far less likely to attend church, and generally occupy a position much further liberal-left on the political spectrum than the general public.

Stay Strong Sheriff Carona.

I find it interesting that when a persons life choices catch up with them, they turn to religion. Many of Mike Carona’s life choices have, by his own admission in this interview, have been bad. So what do you do now? If you are Mike Carona, you ask for forgiveness, and tell everyone you will “hopefully” forgive the people doing their jobs by bringing him to trial. I have no problem forgiving Mike Carona for the things he has done. But like anyone else he needs to be held responsible, and pay the consequences. If he is the Christian he claims to be, he should have no problem with that. He has, at a minimum, compromised the Office of Sheriff. When other law enforcement agencies refuse to share information with yours because they don’t trust the Sheriff, it lowers the level of protection provided to our county. If he truly put the people of Orange County first, as he should, he would step aside.

Attending Church does not make one a Christian, it just makes you someone who goes to church. I know many people who do not attend church who are good people with good values.

I find it hard to believe the United States Government would indict an elected sheriff without believing the charges were true.

Rich White Guy: I am interested in your statements about journalists. I would like to read more about their church attendance and political views. Would you please share with me your source of these studies?

As Thanskgiving Approaches: Pilgrims Trials & Sheriff Carona’s Firestorm

The little band of Pilgrims who settled near but probably never landed on the Plymouth Rock, suffered oppression from the Church of England, the political hierarchy of the day. If the way was preordained for these Pilgrims, the way was made anything but smooth for them. Life was very hard for the group because they had few skills beyond the ones they learned on the farm. The Mayflower got them to the American coast in time for the onset of winter during which they lost about half their number. Every step of their Exodus was paved with hardship and disaster. The Pilgrims came to escape oppression and practice their religion in peace.

Now, almost 400 years later, Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, and his family is suffering from an eerily similar oppression from the “political hierarchy” of America and its local henchmen in Orange County. Sheriff Carona, in all his attempts over the past nine years to make Orange County a safe and comfortable place to live, work and raise your family, has been Exiled.

During this Thanksgiving week, let us rally to the aid of Our Sheriff and become Sheriff Carona’s Mayflower.

I end with this thought:

Let us renew our Pilgrim faith. May we take courage that within us is a light, if we seek it, which can wisely guide us through this Firestorm. When we gather for Thanksgiving, you will have an opportunity to set the course of events. Today, you can participate in that process by supporting our Sheriff, Michael Carona.

I'm no psychologist or social scientist but between Carona comparing his indictment to the JFK assassination and rwg comparing Carona to the pilgrims is anyone asking for urine samples?

Part of me is sad to see that my words and beliefs regarding Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, and this Firestorm, are being viewed as comedy. I expect this type of behavior from Sheriff Carona's detractors, but the activity appears to be a growing and disappointing trend.

The other parts of me are happy.

I agree with some and disagree with some of what you write Rich but I honor your opinion and your right to publish it.

You should know better. I and many not only read your words accussing Poncy of speaking to recruits about political Sheriff issues but have been told printed copies exist.

For you to now deny on the internet what was posted by you and flippantly remark, “You must have me confused with someone else. Don’t feel bad, it happens all the time,” has me worried.

Have you become one of the sold my soul, say whatever it takes, deny the truth, don't think for yourself followers? You lost me now. I recommend you be very careful. Others before you, Jaramillo, Haidl, Cavallo and Murray to name a few have either served time or been found guilty doing what you are doing.

No doubt Poncy’s attorney has a copy of that posting and this one. Good luck on the witness stand in Federal Court. I wouldn’t try the, “You got me confused with someone else” line.

Why does it take an Orange County Register sports reporter (Mark Whicker) to bring to light the unfairness of trial and conviction in the court of public opinion? We should at least be happy that someone in the OC is making a statement about the lack of fundamental fairness when accusations of misconduct are leveled against persons we hold up as role models.

Mark Whicker writes,"If you can ignore the fact that there were no cross examinations, no subpoenas, no testimony under oath, no interaction between accuser and accused, no advance notice to the accused and no hard evidence whatsoever in most cases, the MLB Mitchell Report certainly made its point." This sounds all too familiar: Allegations as Facts?

Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, in this Firestorm, as well as some of the most respected major league baseball players, are being "Convicted" in the media way before they will be able to have the allegations against them proven in the proper venue. Our role models deserve better from the communities they serve.

As Whicker noted, the unproved allegations may still be proof enough for some baseball writers to justify not voting these players into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Will the same fate await Sheriff Carona? Will he be exiled before the truth behind this Firestorm is revealed in its totality?

"Vigilante Journalism," pure and simple. "Vigilante Journalism" that is destroying the lives of innocent, kind, gentle and intelligent men. Allegations taken as Facts allow some to immediately rush to the end - to the punishment phase - without following the process due the accused to get there.

Mark Whicker isn't cool with that. Neither am I.

I am certain that your enthusiasm to see Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, vindicated is (overall) well intended. I can understand the anger this Firestorm has generated amoungst some, but you know as well as I do that Sheriff Carona has called for forgiveness and healing when this Firestorm has ended and he has been able to return to his duties full-time.

Your continued support of Sheriff Carona is greatly appreciated.
