Faubel Wins County Contract Worth $760,000

Posted by: Adam D. Probolsky | 12/16/2007 2:27 PM

File this under boring but true...

The County of Orange last week selected Faubel Public Affairs to head up the public education effort for the Orange County Stormwater program this month.  This new contract for educating and informing the public about water-related issues adds to Faubel's (and John Stratman a key county player and Faubel vice president) other water related experience doing PR for the Orange County Water District's and Orange County Sanitation District's Groundwater Replenishment System water purification project.  Faubel also recently worked to help earn local approval for Poseidon Resources' Huntington Beach desalination project.

Faubel's firm has served as the public education firm for the Orange County Stormwater program for the past four years.

I am pleased for Roger and John - both very capable fellows.

Still, there seems something inherantly wrong with these government-sponsored public "awareness" campaigns.

The notion that we are all taxed and then the funds taken from us are used to "educate" us on what is going on with our tax funds.

As a taxpayer, for example, I don't really care or want to know about the "Groundwater Replenishment System" -- it sounds very obscure and uninteresting.

All I really care about is that I have water to drink at a reasonable price.

Seems to me that a better deal would be to stick information in one's water bill for those who really care, and then take the rest of the "PR" budget and lower water rates.

Can anyone tell me why we want to be "educated" about the Orange County Stormwater program? I guess maybe Roger or John can do so, since they're getting paid to do it.

Cynically, I usually see these government PR programs as being designed to get taxpayers to buy into more taxpayer funded programs.

Anyways, don't let my rant about how our tax dollars are spent be interpreted as saying anything negative about Faubel and his team. If someone's going to educate us about obscure government programs, they will do a very capable job.

Boring is right said:

I would not trust anything from Waters and Faubel. They spent years lying about El Toro Airport. After 4 tries they got their way. Even a last place team can beat a first place team if they play them enough times.
