Kudos to Martin Wisckol over at Total Buzz for clearing up the confusion surrounding the possible replacement for the Sheriff's office, should Mike Carona steps down before the June Election.
According to County Counsel Ben de Mayo, who referenced a recent opinion from the Attorney General's office, "that the Board appointee serves the entire current term and another election would only be held for the succeeding term."
If this is what the Board of Supervisors must go by then they do not have the option of appointing a caretaker, but someone who would serve out the remainder of Mike Carona's term, which is at the end of 2010. Which means the voters will not get a say on who will be our next Sheriff.
