After my post last week about how BOE Member Michelle Steel discovered that the state's tax agency is illegally withholding refund checks from California small business owners, the Sacramento Bee today published an article highlighting that multi-million dollar mistake. Kudos to Mike Richman from San Bernardino County for putting it up first.

NEGLECT ALLEGED IN REFUNDS DUE SMALL BUSINESSES

California's tax collecting agency is withholding refunds owed hundreds of small-business owners, said one member of the Board of Equalization, who is calling for an investigation into a tab that could be millions of dollars.
Michelle Steel, whose district covers much of Southern California, discovered last month that the BOE had not returned $4 million worth of security deposits paid by more than 600 Southland businesses.
"They have to release the money," said Steel, citing delays ranging from three months to nearly four years. "They're not working promptly. That's not acceptable."
Bill Leonard, who represents the BOE district that includes Sacramento, the Central Valley and the Sierra Nevada, is also calling for action: "(Steel's) onto something big, maybe even bigger than she knows. I want this to go statewide and the policy changed."
