What'll Loretta Do In 2010?

Apparently Rep. Loretta Sanchez is still considering running for Governor in 2010, because she's been jawboning some individuals recently that she really means to do it. That's a campaign I would look forward to blogging.
Come to think of it, that's a possible explanation of why she's causing trouble for the 241 toll road extension -- curry favor with the enviros in preparation for a statewide. If she can claim any credit for killing the completion, it's a major feather in her Loretta-for-Governor cap as far as that particular Democratic constituency is concerned. So what if it killing it also kills the accompanying jobs -- union jobs -- that so many of her constituents would like to have. I wonder how People For Loretta 2020 donor Bay Area Union Labor Party feels about that?
But I digress. Kind of.
I was perusing the short donor list of the "People For Loretta 2010" committee. There's $2,500 from the Sister-Act Committee, which is the joint fundraising committee for Loretta and Linda Sanchez.
Two of the committee's seven donors are firefighter unions -- including $1,000 this past June from our own Orange County Professional Firefighters Association PAC. The other one is the San Francisco firefighters union PAC.
Why Loretta's popularity with the firefighters?
Maybe they liked her Christmas card from two years ago:
Gotta be the leather pants.

I don't understand why Sanchez would leave her congressional seat to make a quixotic run for governor. Every elected statewide Democrat plus Antonio Villar and Newsome, want to run, and they have a heck of alot more resources and name recognition than she does. The only explanation I can think of is that she a.) Believes the hype published by the media and especially hippie bloggers that she took down some evil white Republican in an overwhelming rightwing Republican Orange County district, b.) She knows that she will be beat by Tran, and doesn't want to go out that way, or c.) both a & b.
The 2000 gerrymandering geographically divided the Vietnamese community between Dana and Loretta's adjacent congressional districts. Santa Ana is in Loretta's and Garden Grove is split. Westminster is in Dana's and most of Anaheim in Loretta's. Thus the Vietnamese vote in the 47th CD may not be as strong when compared to the 1st SD. No GOP candidate has come within double digits of Loretta in the general election since the 1996 B-1 Bob vs. Loretta's 984 alleged votes. Tan Nguyen suffered the most lopsided race in history against Loretta (62%).
Why do you think that specific gerrymandering took effect? Yes, someone saw the potential collective Vietnamese voting bloc in central OC and took the necessary step to make sure her seat would remain safe, at least against a strong non-Dem Vietnamese candidate.
Just think lorretta has all the undocumented workers double secret vote. She is as good as gold.
Quang's comment is particularly interesting considering that Ed Royce, David Dreier, and Jim Brulte drew the lines.
Lorretta is HOT!
Quang-
I beg to differ. You haven't looked at the ROV data for this district in a long time if you don't think a strong Vietnamese candidate can defeat Loretta. Using Tan Nguyen as a pre-cursor to what would happen to Tran is ludicrous. Van is well respected across party lines and close to half of the 47th is in the 68th. He also has the support of the local Republican party, overwhelming support in the Vietnamese community and a ground operation that has proved very effective time after time.
Let me be clear about that though: only a strong REPUBLICAN Vietnamese candidate with VERY HIGH name ID can beat Loretta.
Only one other district in Orange County is more vulnerable to the Democrats than the 47th, and that is the 69th AD. I'm surprised the OCGOP hasn't found the right Vietnamese candidate to run against Solorio.
Maybe Loretta wants to get out of Congress before the William "refridgerator" Jefferson's trial is over for hiding cash in his freezer.
The company accused of giving the freezer bribe to Jefferson only gave to two other members - Loretta and her sister Linda.
We know what they got from Jefferson. What did the Sanchez sisters sell their vote for?
Maybe Loretta doesn't want to stay in Congress long enough for us to find out.
I still can't find any confirmation that she even returned the check like she claims.
All Vietnamese-American voters (1.5 Million) will vote for Loretta because she is anti-communist.
Loretta supports human rights and freedom for Vietnam and she has demonstrated it with actions.
Boat People:
Are you kidding right? All Vietnamese voters will vote for whom? What has Loretta done for Vietnamese voters in the last 10 years beside showing up in VN? Did she bring any jobs? any projects? any program? What actions Loretta has demonstrated do you refer to? Please be specific. Thanks.
Why don't we run Dornan again?
Loretta hasn't done anything for the Viet community. She does a good song and dance and dress up in the long dress around Tet. Other than that, absolutely very little over 12 years now. People see through her. Only a few Viets get fooled by this. It's n ot funny any more.
Loretta supports humans rights? Yeah, right. Where was she when we needed her to champion the Yellow Flag in the cities and the states? What was her role and credit? Where was she when Ly Tong was imprisoned in Thailand? Where was she when the Viet commies infiltrated the community through the Viet Weekly and through other offensive activities in the community? Didn't hear a word from her. Where was she when Viet women were harrassed and subjugated in Taiwan and Korea? Where was she when the Viet community needed help with so many other issues with the cities, county, and state? Here's the answer to all these questions: She was MIA! No where to be found. Complete silence!
A strong Viet candidate will bring all of these things out. Loretta is just a shadow, and nothing more. She is very beatable. The lines that were drawn 8 years ago have changed. Little remains the same in central OC within the past several years.
