Taped Mouths, Collective Ignorance

The good Assemblyman beat to the punch. I'll defer the content of Pipes' very good speech to his well-written post. The following is some of my insight:
Last night the crazies taped their mouth shut. Thank god! I guess its the only way they can seal their combustible hatred. One of those taped had Fox News written across their mouth. Tell me, how does that relate? Oh yeah, the "Zionist Jew" controlled media as Amir Abdel Malik Ali likes to say. Thanks to Daniel Pipes, though, who pulled no punches against the radicals and the shakedown artists who try to intimidate free speech on campus.
The MSU and their cohorts did demonstrate a few things tonight:
1. They are anti-American
2. Their narrow mindedness and intolerance makes them incapable of engaging in thoughtful debate.
3. They constantly lie and intimidate to achieve ideological goals.
During the beginning ceremonies, they made an apparent statement of solidarity that it's not only Daniel Pipes they hate. When UC Irvine College Republican President Cameron Gailbraith lead the pledge of allegiance, every single Muslim Student (and cohort) remained glued to their seats.
Second, even though they were told that a disruption of the speech would not be tolerated, they still decided to impede the speech by holding up signs that spoke in typical empty platitudes against America and Israel. Even though Pipe's did make the distinction between radical and moderate Islam, somehow he's a racist. How is taking a stand against radical Islam racist? That is yet to be answered, and still needs to be clarified. Omar Zarka makes an attempt over at the MSU's website but falls short when he tries to characterize his organization's extremist views as moderate:
Daniel Pipes is known for being one of the premier Islamophobes within the US. He persistently slanders the Muslim community by labeling moderate Muslims as terrorists.
The following are some of the events that Zarka has sponsored:
Amir Abdel Malik-Ali: A radical islamic cleric and supporter of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran who advocates that Israel be wiped off the map.
Yvonne Ridley: An operative for the Iranian government press who believes the Taliban to be decent people and Bush and the American military to be brutal savages.
If this is moderate then I don't know what more to say.

No one makes a better case for the kook "Zionist Jew" theories than people like Mr. Constintine and those of his tribe. Hopefully U.S. Christians are no longer fooled by them.
How is that?
Wow!
Jonathan,
This campus activity reminds me of the old Soviet sponsored student debates on campuses across America, where Soviet students would come and debate for communism against capitalist American students.
With a key difference:
The Soviets, at the height of the Cold War, were confident enough in their cause that they stood for the Pledge of Allegiance and were respectful of all of American customs and rights.
The only thing worse than the cowardice displayed by the MSU and all of their ilk is the cowardice who tolerate such bunk thuggery or elevate it to the same level as capitalism, the Bill of Rights, etc.
Following the Battle of New Orleans, Andrew Jackson maintained marshal law in the city until the 30,000 defeated British troops camped nearby departed. He was successfully sued by the saloons and prostitutes of New Orleans for unlawfully denying them their rights. His defense was that he followed the Constitution as a whole and that if parts of the Constitution were used against him, then all America's future enemies would have to do was sue for America's defeat.
These guys can't fight a fair fight. They can't win a fight that is a mile within fair so they resort to thuggery and intimidation.
Keep up the good work!
the tape represented all the things neo-cons use to try and shut up anyone who has different views. My friend your ignorance blinds you, Pipes is a psudo scholar that everyon thinks is a joke. Did you not notice at least 60% of the room was cleared out after the protest? This happened because nobody takes him seriously. The MSU is very moderate friend, you neo-cons love the word extremist, but next time you use it look ast yourselves.
voice; Please relate just one time that a NeoCon tried to shut you, or anyone else, up. I might suggest that you try going through at least one blog, without calling names, or lying about another group. It might help you to get better support.
To: the voice "Pipes is a psudo scholar"?
What, then, is your definition of a scholar? Someone with whom you agree?
Pipes received his A.B. (1971) and Ph.D. (1978) from Harvard University, both in history. He spent six years studying abroad, including three years in Egypt. He speaks French, and reads Arabic and German. He has taught at the University of Chicago, Harvard University, the U.S. Naval War College, and Pepperdine University. He has also written twelve books, four of which deal with Islam.
Sounds like a scholar to me.
All the best,

I am a progressive Democrat who loves this blog because it provides a great reminder of how lucky we are to have free speech.
I support academic freedom of all kinds. I think it is healthy and makes our Country grow in many ways. But I draw the line when any group refuses to stand to salute our flag; particularly those who are subvented by our tax dollars.
I sent 13 months sloshing through the rice paddies in Viet Nam so that free speech and academic freedom could continue in our great country. So those who refused to stand should be ashamed of themselves and perhaps attend a privately funded school. I think they would feel much better paying for their educations using their own money instead of taking the tax dollars from this awful government.
I guess the voice lost his voice.
The students had ample opportunity to speak, yet they refused to answer JC's questions. They refused to listen to or to debate Pipes. They left the event. Who is silencing whom?
I know it's tough to be young and newly political but, think about it, in what Muslim country would you have the rights to act this way? If you think you are being suppressed, please give us a better model.
I must be confused. I could've sworn that the First Amendment of the US Constitution granted people the right to protest peaceably. Walking out silently seems pretty peaceable to me. But apparently, Daniel Pipes has a different view of the law. According to Daniel Pipes, peaceably protesting and not breaking a single law is an example of radical Islam. So standing up for your rights is now against the law(if your Muslim). I need to remember that.
Oh and by the way, you speak of our scare tactics and conveniently forget how the president of the Objectivist Club stood up and said that anyone who stands up or walks out of the speech(AKA using the rights the First Amendment grants us)can be arrested. Telling someone they can be arrested for following the highest law in the land seems like a scare tactic to me. But then again maybe I'm just confused.
Peoples' offense at those who decline to participate in the pledge of allegiance or other "patriotic" activities is the ultimate irony. It is the raising of the symbol above the real, that which it symbolizes. In my mind, the defining principle of the US are amazing individual liberties to which it grants it citizens. It is this feature that has led to our economic and social prosperity.
As brave men and women have fought and died to protect that right, we should celebrate that right, and encourage others to participate in it, even when their opinion is unpopular. That is the point of the bill of rights, to protect the inaliable rights of the minority.
I personally appreciate these rights, and take every opportunity to express such with the prayer that is our pledge of allegiance. But when the failure to participate results in criticism, insults, and is used as a tactic to stifle debate, well that upsets me much more than someone's refusal to participate in the pledge.
The pinnacle of this hypocrisy is the support for outlawing flag burning. I would never engage in a desecration of our national symbol, unless it was made illegal. Then I think I would be forced to undertake such action, to elevate the real above, what would be then, a hollow symbol.
Don't you ever feel like you're being a little . . . hysterical? Like, maybe Muslims could feel affronted by Fox News even WITHOUT it being run by ZIonist Jews?
So these kids are Anti-American? Lying, intimidating, incapable of debate? Tone it down, kiddo. You're gonna give yourself a seizure with all that pent-up crazy.
Rebecca,
Nice post, but I just want to point out that Zionists and Jews are 2 different things. Plus I want to add a tactic out of you Conservatives' book. Why are you guys not responding? Nothing good to say, or is it just the same old stuff you've been saying over and over?(Eeewww. I hate playing dirty. It makes me feel like a biased news journal.)
Watch who you call a conservative, Hahaha.
