It's Official: Wilson Endorses Rudy

Posted by: Jonathan Constantine | 09/28/2007 7:44 AM

Picture_giuliani2_2 Scott Graves heard from an inside source in the Giuliani campaign that former Governor Pete Wilson will endorse Rudy Giuliani for President.

According to Scott Martelle of the LA Times, this endorsement has become official. Now Claremont Professor Jack Pitney predicts that this endorsement might be more of a problem in general elections as it could alienate Rudy by association with hispanic voters because of Wilson's championing of Prop 187. However, in the primaries, this is just the type of endorsement Rudy needs as he is pulling away with the nomination. He has just closed in on Romney in New Hampshire and is ahead in Florida and South Carolina.

If Rudy doesn't maintain his more moderate approach on immigration, he better hope that California changes its electoral rules from winner-take-all,  or as Brian pointed out in an earlier comment, he will be vulnerable to the stinging array of Spanish attack ads.

I'm saddened -- but far from surprised -- at Wilson's nomination. Giuliani is exactly the type of Republican the California GOP has been hanging its collective hat on for the last 15 years: A tax-and-spend, big government, gun controlling, pro-abortion RINO with a questionable personal life. (And see what that's gotten them here in the Golden State: BUPKIS.)

There is nothing to recommend him as President outside of the fact that he happened to be mayor of New York on September 11, 2001. (And they call Tom Tancredo a single-issue candidate!)

When is the Republican Party going to get back to preaching and living its principles: Small government, lower taxes, lower spending, and a humble foreign policy?

The only true Republican in the race is Ron Paul. The sooner self-professed Republicans admit that, the sooner this country gets back on the road to greatness.

Mr. Whipple,

Quit it with the Ron Paul spamming.

Obviously your having trouble informing yourself on the candidates. You've forgotten that Rudy:
1. Cut Taxes 23 Times
2. Reduced Crime by 70 percent.
3. Had the largest welfare to work program in the US-reducing welfare rolls 60 percent.
4. Reduced Unemployment by 4 percent
5. Rehabilitated 73 K homes
6. Rehabilitated CUNY and the NY public schools and held teacher accountable.
7. Saved local businesses 600 million/per year by cracking down the mob tax in trash carting and food distribution industries.

This all explains what George Will the most conservative 8 years in conservative governance in the past 50 years, all done in a city that was deemed ungovernable by his predecessor.

lest folks think this endorsement by Pete Wilson will have no legs, be assured that a photo of Rudy and Pete will be plastered on walls throughout the Southwest.

Rudy---can you say "Adios Nueva Mexico"?

Rudy closing in on Romney in New Hampshire??? The CNN report stated:

"One important point to bear in mind: Two-thirds of Republican primary voters say they are still trying to decide for whom to vote. Only one in eight say they have definitely made up their minds, so this poll cannot be a prediction of what will happen when New Hampshire votes in early 2008."

These polls are ludicrous in that they do not adequately sample what is going on in the country. Only one in eight NH voters has made has made up their minds! That leaves 87.5% of the voters uncommitted! Talk about making a mountain out of a poll mole hill!

Ron Paul is the Secret Front Runner. Look at the fact that his supporters spammed his site to the tune of $1 Million in less than six days. And, Sportsbook.com just decreased the odds of his winning the Republican nomination from 8-1 to 4-1. Giuliani is now at 9-5 and Thompson at 7-2.

Look at the turnouts when Dr. Paul speaks. There were 1,000 people in Salt Lake City of all places--Romney country. There were more than 1,200 in Chicago, a Democratic stronghold.

Paul is the only hope for the Republican Party to recreate itself and to win the election against Hillary. None of the other Republicans stand a chance against her--not when 70% of the country is against the war! She is perceived as anti-war, but she is only expediently so. Paul is the only one who will expose that expediency on her part, and he will do it in a heartbeat.

There is a flood of support for Ron Paul all across the nation. He is drawing from the entire political spectrum and is attracting people from every walk of life and from every age group, especially young people. Join us and let's make sure that Hillary stays in her Senate seat, glued to it!

And, by the way, Jonathan, regarding your comment, "Mr. Whipple....Quit it with the Ron Paul spamming." I would suggest that you, Sir, resist using the hackneyed, knee-jerk characterizations of comments mentioning Ron Paul as "spamming." That is a decidedly unoriginal, hand-me-down tactic that is clearly intended to marginalize your opponent in any discussion.

I presume that this site wishes to have people express their views freely. Is that not true? If so, how is it that, if a view differs from yours, it is automatically dumped (by you) into the spam folder? I think reexamination of your reactions are in order, preferably before you hit the "post" button.

If the site does not wish to have challenging and dissenting views expressed, then I suggest that its writers simply write and everybody else just read with their cyber mouths shut, at least until they decide to go somewhere else for lively debate that does not resort to disingenuous tactics as represented in your remark about spamming.

Please no more of this "spam" blathering. It serves no useful purpose. And, I tire of watching it replicate itself virally from site to site. I feel like I am reading the productions of a virus-infested spambot rather than an intelligent and sensitive human being, which I am sure that you must fancy yourself to be and that I trust that you are.

Anyone seen this?

Pete Wilson is on the wrong side of history. Ron Paul is the candidate to watch. Funny how if you have an opinion which includes support for Ron Paul, you're labeled a 'spammer'.
