Anaheim Council Votes Against Disney On Zoning Change
Posted by: Jubal | 04/25/2007 12:41 AM
I just arrived home from Anaheim City Hall, where the council voted few minutes ago to approve the general plan amendment that will allow SunCal Companies to pursue a condominium development on the 26.7-acre site now home primarily to a couple of mobile home parks. [same full disclosure as last four posts]
After hours of sturm und drang from both sides, the council approved SunCal's request 3-2: Mayor Pro Tem Bob Hernandez and Councilmembers Lorri Galloway and Lucille Kring voting "yes," Mayor Curt Pringle and Councilman Harry Sidhu voting "no."
More later. In the meantime, here's the OCR's webstory.

who would have thought it? matt "jubal" cunningham - working for the team that employs 150 non-english speaking union members to win a vote? not only that, but against a private company that put oc on the map, generates millions of $$ every year for oc in tourist dollars, donates thousands of dollars every year to local charities (I wonder who Suncal donates to besides council people) and employs thousands of local residents.
i wonder exactly how much it costs these days to sell your values?
Hey Bored:
Your post is pure crap.
I hope Jubal deletes it, but he's probably too much of a civil libertarian to do so.
Since when is it "selling your values" to support the land-owner over neighboring forces who don't want the property developed in the manner the land-owner envisions?
The point of all this is zoning changes and general plan amendments happen all the time in cities all across the state. Property owners that desire to develop are within their every right to request a zone change/general plan amendment of the city in order to process their projects. And what happened last night was the lawful process for executing these requested changes. A vote of the city council was taken and the applicant developer's project request was approved.
What is most disturbing though is Curt Pringle and Harry Sidhu's support of the Disney initiative now circulating that if successful would overthrow the city council majority decision and put ballot box planning in place for all future development in the Resort District.
This is property rights abuse at its worst element and both Pringle and Sidhu ought to be ashamed to call themselves conservative republicans.
Judging from the e-mail attached to her fake name, "Bored Lately" is none other than Jennifer Stewart, fiance of Disneyland's Government Affairs Director Chris Lowe.
Very classy, Mr. Lowe: send your fiance to make anonymous personal attacks on Jubal. At least he discloses his relationship with SunCal so readers can make their own judgments, in contrast to the adolescent behavior of Jennifer Stewart and Chris Lowe.
working for the team that employs 150 non-english speaking union members to win a vote?
Memo to Chris Lowe:
You might want to tell your fiance to lay off the Mexican-bashing. I'm not sure the corporate liberals up in Burbank will think that's in keeping with the "Disney image."
I don't pretend to know all about this issue however I will say this....
I don't believe there should be any housing (low income or otherwise) in the immediate area of the Disney Resort. These are future complainers folks...
Complainers about noise, fireworks, traffic, congestion and crowds. These homeowners will be whining within 10 years tops.

So is Sheldon PR on the Disney payroll, in addition to Forde Mollrich and Porter Novelli?
Or is Jennifer Stewart just freelancing her poison?
