Loretta Sanchez Helps Van Tran Gain More Votes

By Chris Emami | 03/21/10 | 11:14 PM EDT | 5 Comments

The political analysis on the Democrats' health plan (which passed 219-212) is just beginning, but here's a quick run-down of how OC's Congressional delegation voted:

Ken Calvert (R): No
John Campbell (R): No
Gary Miller (R): No
Dana Rohrabacher (R): No
Ed Royce (R): No
Loretta Sanchez (R): Yes

Sanchez, the lone Democrat in the Orange County Congressional delegation, just gave Van Tran a few more percentage points in the November election.  With her vote in favor of the Democrats' health care plan, Sanchez has handed Tran the biggest campaign issue in his bid to unseat her in 2010.

Paper: City Should Fire Gary Thompson

By Don Draper | 03/21/10 | 6:22 PM EDT | 2 Comments

It keeps getting worse for Gary Thompson.

After the slow news drip of Gary's potential malfeasance in Menifee, the suspension the City gave him, and the campaign contributions he took from the company he let overbill the City, today the Editorial Page of the North County Times took it to another level: they say the City should fire Thompson.

Calling his work "sloppy," the Times concludes that the City would be "better off" firing Thompson's GST Consulting.

McNerney Should Think Twice

By Ken Campbell | 03/20/10 | 10:42 PM EDT | 1 Comment

If he wants to stay in office, Jerry McNerney, the Democrat incumbent in California’s 11th CD should think twice about his vote tomorrow on Obama’s health care takeover. In his congressional district that leans to the left, 56% of respondents in a poll say they oppose Obama Care. The poll (by cc Advertising) conducted yesterday and today contacted 20,000 households in the 11th Congressional District and had 1946 respondents answer the question on health care reform. McNerney needs to decide if he will stand with the people of his district or his party

Let Congressman McNerney know how you feel, 877-762-8762 (877-SOB-U-SOB), 202-224-3121, 202-225-3121 or his district office, 925-833-0643.  Email:  info@jerrymcnerney.org <info@jerrymcnerney.org

4th Supe District Watch: Nelson's Former Next-Door Neighbor Hired Bill Hunt To Investigate Harry...

By Matthew Cunningham | 03/20/10 | 3:07 AM EDT | 25 Comments

Orange County politics can take some weird twists, but this is a doozy.

I posted a short time ago that Tony Bushala, next-door neighbor to 4th Supe District candidate Shawn Nelson, has asked DA Tony Rackauckus to investigate Nelson opponent Harry Sidhu.

Bushala bases his complaint on the report of a private investigator he hired.

And who would that private investigator be? Why, none other than "OC Detectives" -- the P.I. firm owned by OC Sheriff candidate Bill Hunt.

That would be the same Bill Hunt whose praises Bushala's blog has been singing, while attacking Hunt rival Craig Hunter. I wonder if that business relationship was ever disclosed on Fringe for Fullerton's Future?

If, by chance, Harry Sidhu is elected and Bill Hunt is elected OC Sheriff, that would make for some interesting inter-agency dynamics. Taking on this case certainly doesn't say a lot for Hunt's judgment.

4th Supe District Watch: Nelson’s Former Next-Door Neighbor Asks DA To Investigate Sidhu

By Matthew Cunningham | 03/20/10 | 1:22 AM EDT | 3 Comments

4th Supe District candidate Shawn Nelson’s next-door neighbor has filed a complaint with the OC District Attorney asking for an investigation into the other GOP candidate in the race, Harry Sidhu.

Tony Bushala, proprietor of Friends for Fullerton’s Future, the de facto voice of the Nelson for Supervisor campaign, is upset that Sidhu was briefly registered to vote at a 4th District apartment complex at which he apparently never lived.

Good luck with that.

Sidhu is now registered to vote at a house he is renting in the 4th District.

I don’t think anyone, least of all Bushala, believes the DA is going to file charges. Sidhu is no longer registered to vote there, so why would he bother?

But I seriously doubt sparking a real investigation is really the point of this exercise. The DA will look into it, which will allow the Nelson campaign to send out mail claiming that “Harry Sidhu is being investigated by the District Attorney for voter fraud!”

It’s a variation on the venerable tactic of filing a complaint against your opponent with the FPPC, and then telling voters your opponent is being “investigated for violating state law.”
