The New Deal, Part Deux

Like many of you, I watched the most recent presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama. Also like many of you, I strained to stay awake in the midst of pandering rhetoric and New Deal socialism. I don't use this word lightly and know full well what it means. We are marching headlong in 1930's big government and there does not appear to be a party or a candidate that can stop it.
The only highlight of the debate was the only real news of the debate... McCain's suggestion that the government was going to buy back mortgages.
Here is the exact quote [emphasis added]:
UPDATE: In case you missed it, Matt Cunningham over on the OC Blog has excellent play-by-play analysis of the whole debate. Apparently, he was able to stay awake.
The only highlight of the debate was the only real news of the debate... McCain's suggestion that the government was going to buy back mortgages.
Here is the exact quote [emphasis added]:
As president of the United States, Alan, I would order the secretary of the treasury to immediately buy up the bad home loan mortgages in America and renegotiate at the new value of those homes -- at the diminished value of those homes and let people be able to make those -- be able to make those payments and stay in their homes.Insane suggestions like that and his complete lack of distinguishable leadership relative to Obama during this financial meltdown is why conservatives do not like or trust John McCain. If there was any fire in the belly of the Republican base before this evening, I am afraid it is all but extinguished. Given the alternative, I pray that I am wrong.
Is it expensive? Yes. But we all know, my friends, until we stabilize home values in America, we're never going to start turning around and creating jobs and fixing our economy. And we've got to give some trust and confidence back to America.
