Surprise: Undecided Voters Oppose Wealth Redistribution
By Bob Ellis | 10/23/08 | 04:20 PM EDT | 0 Comments
The way the "mainstream" media and Washington liberals have fed us greed, envy and wealth redistribution as the cure for all evils, you'd expect the American people to be ready to start calling each other "comrade."
But a new poll out from ATI-News and Zogby tells a different picture.
According to CNBC, the poll asked: "John McCain and other critics say Barack Obama is heavily influenced by people and organizations which seek social justice through redistribution of wealth in America. Do you agree or disagree with efforts to bring social justice by the redistribution of wealth?"
Amazingly, 57% of undecided voters disagreed with wealth redistribution and only 24% agreed.
This is especially surprising when you consider that, if someone is undecided this close to Election Day, then they're probably not well grounded in a particular philosophy and haven't been paying attention to current events. These qualities often indicate the undecided voter isn't the brightest bulb in the pack...which is usually good news for the liberal candidate.
When Independent voters were asked, 52% disagreed and 39% agreed. So not much more buy-in for socialism here, either.
Whether these Independents and undecideds would have said this a month ago is a good question. With all the publicity Joe the Plumber has received, and the subsequent public discussion of socialism, it's entirely possible that undecideds may have received a crash-course in economics and philosophy.
Whether they always felt that way or whether they only recently came to understand the undesirability of wealth redistribution, either way it's good for America.
Someone once said those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. The world and the history books are filled with examples that Marxism and its more mellow cousin socialism do not work.
Washington liberals are obviously doomed to repeat the mistakes of history if the American people allow them to. Hopefully this poll is an indication that the American people won't allow that, and that they're smarter than the elites in Washington.
The American people usually are.
