Of cats, dogs, women and the Vice Squad

Prince Sattam, acting governor of Riyadh province, issued a decision prohibiting the sale and escorting of cats and dogs in Riyadh in line with a fatwa issued by the Council of Senior Scholars, according to Arab News. In the same same journal, Ahmed Al-Ghamdi, head of the commission in Makkah province is quoted as saying that  it is ".. prohibited to keep a dog inside home. A dog can be owned for purposes of hunting, police duties, guarding houses and property, and by farmers for herding cattle and sheep."  The journal concludes citing Saudi columnist Abeer Mishkhas:   "It's interesting to note that the municipality has failed to protect animals on the streets of Jeddah as well as in the zoo. ... I wonder if the officials have considered taking these stray animals to municipality-funded shelters to save their lives? No, it seems that the danger to our 'culture and tradition' comes from dogs and cats inside houses. Those outside are outside any rules and regulations,"

On an unrelated story, Arab News also reports that a religious cop may have violated shariah law by marrying six women; "Prince Muhammad bin Nasser, governor of Jizan province, has ordered an inquiry into whether a 56-year-old member of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice violated Islamic law by marrying six women", the article reads.  Apparently according to Islamic tradition It is forbidden for a man to be married to more than four women.

Across the pond, almost  one third of Muslim students on Britain's campuses believe killing in the name of religion can be justified.  A poll, conducted for Islam on Campus, a new report from the Centre for Social Cohesion think-tank, also found that 40 per cent of those interviewed supported the introduction of sharia law for British Muslims

And in the US, Katherine Kersten in Opinion Journal sums up recent conflicts over Islamic law in Minnesota, where Islamic taxi drivers are refusing to transport passengers carrying alcohol and store clerks are refusing to handle pork.

"By piggy-backing on our civil rights laws, Islamist activists aim to equate airport security with racial bigotry and to move slowly toward a two-tier legal system. Intimidation is a crucial tool. The 'flying imams' lawsuit ups the ante by indicating that passengers who alerted airport authorities will be included as defendants." , reads the piece

In other words,  with Senator Obama's world views, shariah law is coming to a state near you this winter!

While the Flying Imams originally included "John Does" in their lawsuit, they dropped them in 2007, not out of the goodness of their hearts, but because the citizens reporting suspicious activity were granted legal immunity under a law implementing recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, passed by Congress and signed by President Bush in August 2007

Douglas:

Would you say that those who argue the Judiciary is out of control are being alarmist, or is there merit in such position. The implications are that sharia law would come to the US on short order if the Judiciary is not reigned in.

Another reason to vote for or against Senator Obama, perhaps?
