McCain Snubs Conservatives In CA GOP Delegation
Posted by: Slotur | 06/12/2008 4:34 AM
It is official. McCain doesn't really want conservatives involved in the fall campaign. He recently named members of the convention committee.
Quick can someone spot the conservative leaders?
Committee on Credentials:
John Peschong
Rosario Marin
Commitee on Rules
Bob Laurie
Jill Buck
Committee on the Platform
Jennifer Russo
Congressman Kevin McCarthy
Committee on Permanent Organization
Assemblyman Van Tran
Sonia Denham
Jill Buck led the effort to water down the CRP Platform. Peschong consults for McCain and the New Majority. Van Tran, while a prominent McCain supporter is a wheeler dealer that failed in all his races in the important OC. Congressman McCarthy is the well known and effective henchman for former Congressman Bill Thomas. His voting record while mostly conservative hasn't redeemed his past butchery of conservative candidates and causes.
Not one conservative leader in the bunch. How does that help in November?

Bit close minded are you?
"Not one conservative leader in the bunch. How does that help in November?"
1) How is Assemblyman Van Tran NOT a conservative leader? Your dismissal of him as a "wheeler dealer that failed in all his races in the important(sic) OC" (which has nothing to do with being an effective conservative leader by the way) stinks of nothing but bitterness. This post lost most of its credibility right off the bat.
2) Let's say there aren't any "conservatives" on the list. You ask how does that help. How would it help him having MORE "conservatives" in the list? Pray, tell me, what advantage does McCain get from failed "conservative" Republicans advising his Presidential campaign in California of all states? I say "failed" because much of the folks I can assume you would approve of being on that list have been the same folks who have been organizing, running and losing statewide for YEARS.
3) I hope the CA GOP doesn't listen to folks like you or our future in the minority is sealed for eternity. You're the GOP of the old; get ready for the GOP of the new, made up of conservative members who don't feel the need to pander to the hard right in order to win their vote. Hopefully re-districting will take care of people like you. Good lord I hope it does. I'm really sick of both the hard right and the hard left. Our state's much better than that.
d'Anconia,
If you think McCain or any other Republican can win the presidency without the support of conservatives, you are in a dream world.
Conservative voters are going to look to conservative opinion leaders for guidance on whether or not to get behind McCain. And as long as he keeps snubing those opinion leaders, they are going to be less inclined to encourage thier base to do anything in support of McCain.
I'm not saying that he has to join the vast right wing conspiricy. But keeping conservatives at arms length while hugging up with those who seek to make us into the "Democrat-Lite" Party is not helping his cause.
Craig-
For one, I never stated that McCain or any other Republican could win the presidency without the support of conservatives. That's as outrageous of a statement as saying that a Democrat could win without the support of any liberals.
What I took issue with in this post was Slotur's characterization that the names on the list aren't good enough because none of the folks HE considers to be conservatives are on it.
Maybe Slotur missed the obvious point that most of the folks on that list were McCain supporters to begin with (maybe loyalty matters for some more than political pandering?)
Instead of taking a shot at our presidential nominee any time you(plural) get a chance because you disagree with him 25% of the time, maybe you can use that energy to get those "conservative" opinion leaders to get off their chairs and campaign for the candidate that OUR party nominated. Maybe it wasn't your first choice but it is what it is.
Oh, and one more thing:I would love to debate you any day on the merits of Assm. Van Tran, who is in that list, as wanting to make our party "Democrat-Lite".
It's amazing what comes out of peoples' mouths sometimes when they're bitter. Geez.
d'anconia,
First, let me say that when it comes to Asm. Tran, there is nothing to debate as far as I am concerned. He is a good GOP member and a good guy in general.
Secondly, I have worked to try to get social conservatives to get out and support McCain. But everytime I do, the McCain campaign goes and pulls a bone-head move; like refusing to meet with Billy Graham... BILLY GRAHAM!!!!.... Even Carter & Clinton met with Billy Graham!
Maybe if McCain had a few more social conservatives advising him he would avoid making such mistakes. Because every time he does, it hurts his credibility with values voters.
Sounds like the social conservatives would rather have Barack Obama in the White House than John McCain since he's not as "pure" as they are.
d'anconia sounds like the typical RINO. Anyone with that much hate for the dwindling base and for so many Indy cons (where most conservatives have gone, like to The CP) needs to read his own words. They tell volumes about why so many conservatives left the GOP (as I did in '96). d'anconia's a "lesser of two evils" Repblican. Well, I proudly stand up as a Chuck Baldwin conservative. Baldwin is the only true conservative in the race. He is right--and I mean RIGHT--on ALL issues from the Invasion by Mexico (which I assume from his McCainite position d'anconia welcomes) to getting tough with Red China (something d'anconia fears because it would hurt his big business sell-out friends).
I don't know these people that Slotur has named, but if they're people selected by either McCain himself or his RINO underlings, I believe what Slotur is saying. McCain hates conservates and has done everything he can to anger us:
-Leading the Gang of 14 in blocking Bush's constructionist Fed. judge selections
-Pushing Amnesty for years with the likes of Ted Kennedy instead of pressuring Bush and before him Clinton and Pappa Bush to close the Border. His state is where the tidal wave of illegal aliens has invaded the U.S.
...to name a few.
McCain will be a three-time loser for President because he chose to "stick it" to the base instead of reaching out to them. His upcoming speach before the racist seditious group La Raza is indicative of how "conservative" and how stupid John McCain is. Look for a huge Obama victory in November, but don't blame conservatives for staying home or voting for a third party candidate! Blame the idiots running the GOP who destroyed Romney's campaign in favor of McCain and set up this pathetic Napoleonic figure for a three-time loss.
