If I Were A Democrat...

Posted by: Eniap Samoht | 05/06/2008 12:40 PM

thedemocratdonkey_index_02.jpgIf I were a Democrat, I would be absolutely livid.  I would be screaming at anything and anyone who would listen.  2000 was only the beginning; Bush 'stole' the election and Gore should be in his twilight years as we speak.  But he's not.  Instead he grew a beard and not only drank the global warming kool-aid; he's the cult leader who laced it with cyanide and passed it around the room.  Oh crap, I stepped out of character.

Okay, I'm a Democrat again, and I'm angry.  Much better.  The last two major Presidential elections were supposed to be ours.  We should be in control of the House, Senate and the White House; but two out of three ain't bad right?  But this year is our year.  There is no way we are losing again.  Bush is at an all-time low and the Republican brand is fading.  We got this thing in the bag!  In the words of the Party Chairman, "Yeeeawwww!!"

Yet something doesn't feel right.  Suddenly I am feeling more than a little uneasy about our so-called savior.  He failed to win a single big state in the primary other than his home state of Illinois.  Last I checked, California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York are kind of important when it comes to presidential politics.  Just ask Al Gore about Florida and John Kerry about Ohio.

Then I start hearing about his voting record, and it's pretty far to the left of me (I'm a blue-collar caucasian moderate Democrat if you couldn't tell).  I kind of like the Taurus PT92 9mm handgun in my closet, my small-business can't stand any more taxes, and you know what?  I kind of like the fact that scumbag rapists and murderers get the chair!  But I've voted Democrat now for thirty years, and I really don't like Gee Dubya.  In fact, I even have one of those "Impeach Bush" stickers on my car.

But then I start to find out more and more about Obama on guns, business and crime, not to mention his less-than-appealing relationship with a pastor who hates America; and I wonder how he is about to win my party's nomination while being to the far-left of the mainstream and without winning any of the major states we need to win in November.  Suddenly, Hillary isn't looking half-bad; am I drinking?

So how in the heck did we screw this up yet again and who is to blame?  How did we not find out earlier about his over-the-top lefty liberal voting record or the numerous skeletons in his closet?  I don't have the time to look into his Senate voting record.  I didn't know he was the most liberal Senator in 2007!  How did we elect this extreme liberal instead of the more moderate candidate Clinton, who could have actually stood a chance versus the moderate McCain?  Shouldn't you win the nomination if you win California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York??

Ok, back to being myself now.  Of course most Democrats haven't yet realized how much they have messed up yet again.  Most of them still cling to "hope" that Obama can win in a general election.  But this is if I were a Democrat, and I'm smart, right?

The fact is, the media and the DNC have let the Democrats down big time (not that im complaining).  The media latched on to Barack early on, and instead of vetting him as they would most candidates, they decided not to dig too deep.  Trouble is, people like Sean Hannity and yours truly like to do their homework, and things don't stay quiet very long in this internet-media day and age.  People are just now finding out about the Reverend Wright's and Bill Ayers' in his past.  And his voting record will become more and more of an issue to middle-of-the-road Democrats as we move toward November.

Also to blame is good ole' Howard "Yeeeawwww!!" Dean, who should have been fired years ago.  Their primary system made it virtually impossible for a moderate candidate like Hillary (I can't believe I just called her that) to win.  All Obama had to do was stay somewhat competitive in the large states, while dominating the smaller ones.  Not to mention the huge blunder that was Michigan and Florida.  How they could completely discount their delegates is beyond me.

The Republicans were smart enough to have a mix of winner-take-all, winner-take-all by Congressional District, and percentage states that candidates had to be competitive in just about every part of the nation in order to win our nomination.  And we made the right choice in allowing states that broke the rules to still seat half their delegates; a fair enough reprimand.

So in retrospect, I guess I just can't help but sit back and smile.

Eniap Samoht, I am a democrat and I think it's cute how you trivialize and spin things to appear as if our two presidential candidates are unqualified. Good luck with that. :)

Obama is the worst thing that ever happened to the Democrats this time around. If someone slept through this whole cycle he/she would read the story about this election and NEVER believe that it's based on a true story.

"File it under fiction"

That's what I would say.

Uhhhh, I'm pretty sure Obama did a good enough job himself of turning himself into an unqualified candidate.

I don't think Eniap ever said anything about Hillary though. That's the point I think. Hillary was a shoe-in until Barack showed up. Now all hell's broken loose for the Dems.

Oh...good luck with THAT.

I am not sure how I made them look unqualified. In fact, I never even brought up their ability to lead, only their categorization as 'moderate' or 'liberal' and their chances of winning in the general election. In fact, I may have been even a bit too nice when it came to Hillary, but then I really do believe she would be a very formidable opponent against McCain, whereas I don't think Obama will be.
This post was about their chances of winning in a general election, how the candidate with a lesser chance of winning will most likely be the one nominated, and how that came about.
But thanks for the good luck, although I don't think I will be the one needing it come November! You may also want to read my previous post, "Could Obama Pull a Goose Egg in November?" You will find it most interesting reading I am sure!

Thanks for your input.

Best,
Eniap
