Obama Attacks Senator McCain

Posted by: Jessica Austin | 04/26/2008 10:29 PM

Today Barack Obama criticized Senator John McCain:

"John McCain says he's different, but when you look at his policies he's got no agenda for you, how to make you a little more successful," Obama told his heavily blue-collar audience.

And this coming from a man who has accomplished almost nothing in the Senate?  Or what were the issues he fought for back in his home town as a state legislator- the issues on his agenda?  Sure, Obama has quite an extensive resume and recieved an ivy league education.  But the man has no major policy achievements, unlike Senator McCain.  Republicans can list many major achievements of John McCain- and some they may not even agree with philosophically.  But at least the man takes his job seriously.  Obama's followers cite his charisma or his eloquent stature as reasons as to why they like him, and why he deserves the presidency.  In fact, there have been instances on TV when Obama's fans are asked to list major accomplishments and they list personal characteristics... because that's all he's got going for him.

Perhaps he spends the  time missing 3 X as many votes as Hillary and being absent for 82 of his chamber's  346 votes during the current two year session taking public speaking classes.

Senator McCain certainly may not be as conservative as many Republicans would hope him to be... but that doesn't take away from the fact he still is a true American patriot and hero who has devoted his entire life to this great country.  McCain's agenda of national and economic security sounds much better than the socialist and anti-American rhetoric that is being said by the democratic presidential candidates.  I don't know what plans Obama has to make Americans a "little more successful", and to be quite frank, I don't want to know.  I'll stick with the straight talk express.

Barack Obama couldn't hold McCain's coat.

Add Michelle Obama to the list of problems that her husband has to overcome in his quest for the presidency. The would-be future first lady is cementing her reputation as an angry woman with a chip on her shoulder. Like Teresa Heinz Kerry before her, Mrs Obama is becoming a weight on her husband's aspirations. Her stump speech of May 2 is a case in point.

According to Mrs Obama, Barack's experience as a "community organizer" in Chicago before entering politics is experience that no other candidate can match. Leave aside for the moment what exactly a "community organizer" is, according to Mrs Obama, it must be something really special.

In describing what the senator did, she tells us that:

For years, he walked the streets of the south side of Chicago.
He bussed women to City Hall so that they could "find their voices".
In all those years, "we have seen it all. Barack has seen it all."
No other candidate had made that "kind of choice" or had that kind of experience.

Pretty vague stuff. "Walk the streets", "find their voices", "seen it all".

I would like to point out to Mrs Obama that there is another candidate who can match that "impressive" resume. What did John McCain do before he entered politics? True, he was never a "community organizer". What he did was join the Navy, become a bomber pilot, survive a massive explosion on his aircraft carrier, fly bombing missions in Viet Nam, get shot down, spend 5 years in a North Vietnamese prison camp and suffer torture in the process. Add to all that his many years as a US Senator.(Of course in the world of the Obamas, serving in the military doesn't count for much on a resume; it was a choice that Barack never made.)

But McCain was never a "community organizer". Unlike Barack Obama, he has never "seen it all". He has never "walked the streets of the south side of Chicago".

So what exactly is a "community organizer"? Someone who organizes communities? What specifically did he do? He may have done a lot of good things, but to me, this is just another example of how thin this man's resume is for one who is running for the presidency.

Let's look at Obama's political record. What is he remembered for as a state senator in Illinois? What did he accomplish? How about his 2 year record as a US Senator- what has he accomplished legislatively? Don't tell me what he has voted for. What has he himself accomplished except start running for president virtually the day he arrived in Washington.

This is the dilemma whenever you ask Obama supporters to come up with one accomplishment that would qualify him to be president. They start talking about his gift of oratory, his charm, his talk of bringing people together, change, hope, etc. What they cannot do is tell you one thing that he has really accomplished in his political career beyond making great speeches and getting elected a couple of times.

But for Mrs Obama to put her foot in her mouth and imply that John McCain cannot match her husband's life story is patently absurd. It fits right in with her previous whining about how bad things are in this country for everyday folks. She and her husband have been blessed by what this country has offered them. They both have Ivy League educations and high-paying jobs that enable their family to live well. Indeed, they may wind up in the White House.

Mrs Obama should get off the negativity and stop exaggerating her husband's years as a "community organizer".

Gary you couldn’t hold anyone’s coat. What have you ever done? Isn’t it ironic how the same reasons the right wing nut’s gave for electing Bush, are the same ones they give for not electing Obama, or any other non republican.
The GOP is a bunch of hypocritical racist gender bias fools who still see all blacks as slaves and all women as 2nd class citizens. And like it that way!
Come into the new millennium where all are created equal and opportunity is there for all.
The difference between republicans and democrats is easy to define.
Republicans say you can have any freedoms you want as long as it is the freedoms they want you to have.
Democrats say you can have freedom.
The GOP has successfully turned non political issues into key platforms. Gun control, Gay rights, women’s rights, war on a word (terrorism) FEAR.
And people who enjoy watching cars drive fast and make left turns are the morons who elect other morons who bankrupt a Texas oil company and are friendly with the Taliban because they can drink a beer with them.
I agree that America has been a disappointment under W Bush. We have lowered our moral standards and have become like a little baby boy who pouts when he doesn’t get his way. If we had experienced appointee’s instead of crony appointments we wouldn’t be in this wrong war and our young people would not be dieing in an undefined war attempting to give freedom that is unearned to people that don’t want anything from us except to be left alone.
Have a nice day and make good choices
