Obama Watch: Name One Accomplishment

Posted by: Saulo G. Londono | 02/20/2008 8:48 PM

Are you kidding me?  I saw this on the news earlier today and had to show it to the rest of you in case you missed it.  This one really makes you question conventional wisdom.  In this case the presumption that Republicans would rather face Hillary than Obama.  Now, I agree that Hillary is a known commodity and Obama is not.  I also agree that Hillary could unify the Republicans in a way that Obama would not. But I would also like to re-iterate that his record is awful.

I don't know what's sadder: that the Obama camp didn't brief Senator Watson on how to answer that question or that even if they did, it would be nothing but spinful rhetoric.  I really don't think "he can inspire" is going to do it...

Tip to Senator Watson: Hey Kirk! Next time, tell them about the Halal Food Act!

I support Barack Obama ... I can't tell you of his accomplishments! However, I can say that I've been a Republican all my life and I've never experienced a candidate that inspires me as much as Barack. Inspires to what you ask??? To become involved in our country, our system, and even our politics. His leadership ability surpasses any cantidate in recent history and that is what America needs now.

Thanks, Mr. Obama ... for your "accomplishment" in inspiring me to take pride in America and to renew my hope for the United States.

Robert please clarify something for me:

Are you looking to elect a President or a motivational speaker?

Obama is 'Santa Claus' with an empty bag of accomplishments and with a laundry list of promises that would burden the taxpayers with insurmountable debt. That's NOT inspirational, that's 'feel good' political rhetoric.

The price tag is too high for either Obama or Clinton.

McCain has issues I don't agree with, but for one he has no intention of placing those burdens upon the taxpayers with higher taxes. He trusts the people with 'their' money rather than government to take their money.

Along with his steadfast support for our Military; he gets my vote.

Nice work, Gericault, copying the lust from u-blog-press.blogspot.com. At least, you formatted it better than they did.

Unfortunately, neither of you provided a single citation for any of them. Let's assume the list is accurate. How then does he plan to balance things like "Double funds for basic federal research. Create a fund to protect people from foreclosures. Double funding for after school programs." and so on, with "Favors a $1000 tax cut for every working American family. Provide tax credit for all middle class homeowners. Provide a tax cut for all families making less than $75,000 a year." and so on.

I'd certainly ask the same questions of McCain. But this is Obama's list. And it's just more "pie in the sky".

More than that, many of these things are decidedly anti-business: "Fight for passage of Employee Free Choice Act. Encourage states to adopt Paid leave."

This one is just plain stupid: "Provide a universal mortgage tax credit for homeowners who don't itemize." It doesn't take much of a mortgage payment to put you into the class where you can itemize. And if you are, and don't, then you're just plain lazy.

Some are way out of line: "Supports ratification of UN Convention Rights of Persons With Disabilities." We don't take our orders from the UN, and we don't look to them as an example. They're the single most dysfunctional organization on the planet.

"Strengthen federal hate crimes legislation." There's no such thing as a "hate crime". A crime against a person leaves that person just as dead, regardless of the motive. But even more than that, we see in England and Canada where the notion of "hate crime" leads. Say something uncomplimentary about Islam (and there is much uncomplimentary to be said) and you'll find yourself facing jail terms.

Some of these are misguided attempts to coddle the left's "warm-mongering" stance: "Reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.
Confront deforestation. Invest in green technologies. Reduce carbon emission gases. Tackle the challenges of global warming. Understands that global warming is a real problem that must be addressed."

Some are just empty promises: "Supports the first amendment freedom of religion clauses and establishment clauses." Along with motherhood and apple pie. "Reject torture." Obama really ought to ask McCain about what torture really is.

I'm only about halfway through the list, but this is the capper, the most outrageously asinine thing on it: "Will end the genocide in Darfur."

How does he expect to do that - something the mighty UN hasn't been able to do?

He's a jerk.
