After having watched Yasser Arafat humiliate her husband by rejecting Israel's unprecedented concessions in 2000 at Camp David, you'd think the Secrectary of State would have learned a little something. Instead, she seems surprised that Palestinians have rejected Israel's latest offer in attempting to reach peace with her would-be destroyers:
Israel Concessions 'Unprecedented,' Clinton Says
Hilariously, the article reports:
Clinton also agreed with a statement by Netanyahu that Palestinians had never demanded a settlement freeze in the past as a condition for sitting down with Israel.
What's remarkable about this latest round of Palestinian non-negotiation is that it surprises our Secretary of State.
Meanwhile, be sure to read Mona Charen's terrific column, now in our feature section. It talks about how the U.N. is readying war crimes charges against Israeli officers who participated in the recent raids on Gaza--and why not? Just read about some of the awful atrocities which occurred there:
...they hid behind human shields throughout the short war. It was common, when word came of an impending attack, ...to send children out to play in the streets at that moment. There is video of ... with a rocket launcher slung over his shoulder grabbing a 10-year-old boy by the collar and dragging him across the street to deter ...snipers. And it worked. ...has similar video (from Reuters actually) showing ...ambulances ferrying armed men.
There are scores of other examples -- ... firing from mosques, schools, private homes, and hospitals.
Of course, the portions I redacted in the excerpt above show it was the Palestinians routinely committing these atrocities, and Charen's article outlines many of the ways Isreal put its own soldiers at risk in its attempt to shield non-combatants in Gaza from harm.
Yet the U.N. is set to call Israel the perpetrator of war crimes. It's nothing short of a Bizarro worldview that afflicts much of the international community.
The legitimate concern all pro-Israel Americans should have is whether our own administration is similarly confused.
