MY VIEW – Cashiered McCain Adviser Says Conservatives Headed for a Blowout
By Jerry McConnell | 05/25/09 | 08:46 PM EDT | 2 Comments
In what should be great news for conservatives, John Weaver, former John McCain campaign manager and strategist and current adviser to Utah Governor, Jon Huntsman, a potential GOP candidate for president, recently made the announcement that if in the 2012 campaign the GOP is “defined by Palin, Limbaugh and Cheney then we’re headed for a blowout.”
Obviously a statement like that from a chronic loser like Weaver was not intended to portray the GOP as winning in a “blowout” if the persons named were in prominent positions of control during that next presidential election. With his wimpy RINO strategies still dripping with defeat during past election campaigns, such as McCain’s in 2000 and 2008, he could hardly be counted on to recognize that Americans want a return to conservative government, not more run-away, socialistic, break-the-bank and mortgage our children’s futures.
Most ironically, at about the same time as Weaver was spouting his message of defeat for the Republican Party if led by any of the named conservatives, his newest and most liberal RINO, Governor Huntsman, made him look like the incompetent that he is by accepting an appointment from President Obama as U. S. Ambassador to China.
This guy Weaver just can’t win for losing. Talk about star-crossed, this guy even has his eyes crossed and can’t see the forest because of the trees. Trying to alibi his latest misjudgment Weaver told Byron York, Chief Political Correspondent for the May 18, 2009 edition of the Washington Examiner that “He (Huntsman) had not made a decision to run for president, but had made a decision to prepare to run. I firmly believe,” he continued, “that Huntsman and people like him are the prescription for what ails us. But I have the feeling that our party maybe won’t order that prescription in 2012.”
He probably made that last declaration after assessing the damage those kind of people (McCain) did in 2008. There is massive agreement that Obama’s margin of victory would have been much larger had not Sarah Palin entered the contest as McCain’s Vice President bringing in large numbers of supporting conservatives. And if as some people have said, that Obama gave Huntsman the China appointment to cut him out of the competition in 2012, I think he should have offered it to Palin, a much more formidable candidate.
To Weaver’s credit, he got some of it right; the part about “not ordering that prescription in 2012.” And for him, the chronic loser that he is, to tell Americans that “Huntsman and people like him” are what the Republicans need to win, is like saying we need more Specters, Collins’s and Snowes. The more the RINO’ier the better right Mr. Weaver? Why don’t we all just do like Specter and become Democrats instead of just pretend Democrats?
Have you ever seen or heard of anyone so out of touch with the mood of the more conservative people in our country? It would be like the Pope saying we need more Muslims in the Catholic Church just for diversity.
Huntsman’s acceptance of Obama’s offer of the China post appointment, at the very least saved Weaver of the embarrassment of yet another loss. It would be nice if Specter hired Weaver to run his campaign for the Senate in 2010. Don’t laugh! Weaver said we need people like that to win.
What is NOT needed is more of the same wimpy, wussey, wafflers like the leaders the GOP has had for the past two election cycles. They got the Republicans on a losing streak that may not be broken for decades. Only true conservatives will be able to turn that around by giving the people what they want: small government, less taxes, harshly reduced spending, more confidence in our military, stricter methods of obtaining enemy espionage information, less catering to unions, and more family morals and values.
In the meantime, Joseph Russo of Conservatives4Palin.com, commented on Weaver’s remarks about the kind of people needed to win that Weaver “would have been ripping Ronald Reagan in the 1970’s.”
Can I make a suggestion Mr. Weaver? Please offer your services to Al Gore if you hear he might run again – FOR ANYTHING.

"The Middle Class is the Key"
Weaver & co ... move left ... what a joke.
The GOP's "left of middle" idiology experiment with "Ol' Johnny Mc" - has failed miserably. To further pursue that losing stragety is not even close to logical (proving their left leaning ways).
The GOP's "big tent" pandering has led to this situation.
Move right? Keep spending & cut taxes?
... Here's a better way ...
The GOP needs to:
1) Respect the middle-class & protect their success ... peroid.
Clinton initatives like the Gramm/ Leach/ Bliley Act, NAFTA & PNTR have devistated the middle-class. Creating more poor benefits ... the Democrats.
2) Fair Trade ... & ... only with countries that respect human rights. "Free Trade" = exporting USA families jobs to 3rd world oppressors paying near slave wages ... is idiotic. Allow unlimited raw materials to be imported (no quid pro quo necessary) - none exported. Balanced trade - you want us to take your mfg goods - you take an equal value of ours.
3) Regulate the NY Bankers - again. They have proven once AGAIN ("Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." Sir WC) that they are endlessly greedy & totally incapable of acting responsibly when unregulated. Federally insured = federally regulated.
4) Quit pandering to warmongers & NY. 737 USA military bases worldwide is obscene by ANY measure. That's not about defense, but aggression. Get a clue - most of the non-USA interests you're spending our resources for - support the Democrats. The middle-east feud has been on-going for thousands of years. Only our partisan interest in this un-winnable situation has jepordized the USA people.
Quit oppressing others - you'll save us billions, & we'll be safer, too ...
Got more? Absolutely.
In the mean time, get a grip on the above & the GOP will be off to a good start ...
Best.
