My Discussion of NY-23 with Newt Gingrich

By now, Red County readers should know all about the special election battle being waged in New York's 23rd Congressional district.

Perhaps one of the most stunning developments of this entire process was when Newt Gingrich bucked the surging Hoffman tide and instead endorsed the RINO, Scozzafava.

Well, I got the chance to discuss this with Newt just yesterday... click the button below to listen:

A couple more things about Newt:

First, I led the conversation about what the tremendous work he's doing on education in America because I've known about it for some time. Having seen one of the most idiotic articles I've ever seen-- a trend which seems to be on the rise at Newsmax lately-- in which some chucklehead called for Gingrich to break all ties with Al Sharpton in his work on education, I just had to let him talk about his work on this endeavor. What they're doing together is having a hugely positive impact on our schools that all Republicans would love, and it could literally help revolutionize the way education is provided in this country.

Second, despite what many of us consider to be this mis-step, it would be silly to throw this baby out with the bathwater and condemn Newt for eternity based upon the Scozzafava endorsement. Digging out of this hole will be his own task in the months ahead, but I would be remiss not to return his the kindness he showed in granting us this time by neglecting to mention his new book: "To Try Men's Souls: a Novel of George Washington and the Fight for American Freedom." By all accounts, this book is another home run from this best-selling author. Check it out.

I love Newt but he is off

I love Newt but he is off base on this one. Way to go toe-to-toe with him, Chip. That was a great exchange.

Thanks for the compliment on

Thanks for the compliment on the exchange. However, I wasn't trying to go toe-to-toe w/Newt... too much respect for him. He picked the wrong horse in this one but all Republicans need to keep some perspective in his case, IMO. It's not like this was Olympia Snowe backing Scozzafava or something!

Republican infighting always

Republican infighting always makes my day. Keep squabling while President Obama takes care of real business. You conservatives are yesterday's news.

Obama the Spendthrift

Sally's back with his/her whining, crying, repeating what the DNC tells her/him to say.  Sally's so stupid that he, she, it, actually thinks a vigorous debate equates to Republican infighting.  But of course that is to be expected with left wing liberals, because they hole up behind closed doors, and kick out any opposition to what they plan to shove down the American public's throats.  The Democrats have shown that they do not want debate, they do not want discussion, they want a dictatorship.  So go back to your cry baby ways Sally.

BTW, Sally's Comrade Obama is "taking care of business" by golfing more than any other president, taking his wife out to dinner in New York at taxpayer expense, vacationing at taxpayer expense ($50,000/week), throwing parties at the White House at taxpayer expense, and selling out the Lincoln bedroom -- at taxpayer expense.  Obama is today's news, on today's front page:  ALL FOR THE WRONG REASONS.  His days are numbered when he becomes a LAME DUCK.

I'm putting my money on

I'm putting my money on Hoffman....literally. We have to help this guy. A victory for him will send a very lous message to all the squishy Republicans who have squandered GOP credibility.

Gary, you are absolutely right on the money!!!!

Thanks Chip

Very informative.  I still don't agree with Newt on this one.  This handpicked "Republican" candidate is way too far to the left and unacceptable for almost all Republicans and conservatives in particular.  I sure hope Hoffman wins as this will send a message to the GOP establishment!

Keep up the good work Chip.

My mom always told me to

My mom always told me to respect my elders when they're deserving of respect. Newt's one of those guys. He may be wrong with this decision, but like Chip says in his podcast, that doesn't take away from the good he's done and is doing elsewhere, and shouldn't prevent people from being respectful when we do disagree. Good conservatives owe men like Newt that much.

The Republican Party Is Hurting...

The idea that Newt Gingrich might be a viable candidate for the (R) flag bearer in 2012 is surreal. Is it the premise that as time goes by, Gingrich's serial moral lapses will be forgotten?

Newt is a brilliant man. He is an articulate man. But so are Gary Hart and Eliot Spitzer and John Edwards.  Of those three, the Democratic Party would never had considered them morally rehabilitatable. They were done, done , done.

This seems to strike at the core of what ails the Republican Party. The talent pool is seemingly thin. It doesn't have to be that way. There has to be some brilliant and articulate conservatives out there who do not carry the baggage Newt Gingrich does.

Gorget Newt!

Well said Leland!  I mean, how many people serve their then wife on her deathbed with divorce papers? How many people condemn others - PUBLICLY - for behavior that they themselves are taking part in.  FORGET NEWT.  I'm also sick of seeing his stupid interviews on TV, I just turn the station, and I don't care what his latest wife has to say either.  Republicans cannot afford excess baggage and Newt is just that.

Very Impressive

You are a novice at this aren't you Mr. Hanlon? What I mean is, I suspect you have had no formal interview training?

If that is true, my goodness! That was a SUPERB interview, you should have your own radio show.

Bravo sir.
