BUSH PARDONS TWO BORDER PATROL AGENTS

By Mr. Murphy | 01/19/09

In the final hours of the Bush Administration the President has at long last pardoned two Border Patrol Agents who shot a drug dealer along the border. By 'pardon' I mean 'commute' which is not exactly the same thing - I believe it means the conviction stands but the prison term ends. read more »

Another Option for San Diego and Chula Vista?

By Mr. Murphy | 01/06/09

After the Democrat victories in San Diego and Chula Vista we are already hearing endless talk about how new city leaders are going to balance the budgets by raising our taxes. With the possible November Election mentioned above, the time is ripe for the left to move. Here is the strategy, pretty straight from both city halls: when cuts are called for don't actually cut waste or mismanagement or future pensions or salaries -- cut... read more »

Marty Block and Showing Up to Work

By Mr. Murphy | 12/29/08

Like the rest of the readers my eyes are still aching from the millions of dollars of television ads Democrat Assembly candidate Marty Block aired. The theme of many of the ads was that Marty would show up to work and do his job. Maybe I'm wrong, but from the newspaper it looks like Block didn't show up to vote for the new taxes the Democrats passed. Didn't vote NO. Didn't vote YES. Isn't that what his job is? If Block disagreed with the new... read more »

Some Words From Rove Worth Hearing

By Mr. Murphy | 11/18/08

From Newsweek...A Way Out of the Wilderness We've been walloped in consecutive elections, but we can't just dwell on the past. The future is already here.  By Karl Rove  November 24, 2008  Yes, we lost the election. But in a year when all currents were running against Republicans and our campaign was lackluster and erratic, Barack Obama received only 3.1 points more than Al Gore in 2000 and only 4.6 points more than John Kerry in... read more »

Post Election

By Mr. Murphy | 11/12/08

I've taken a few days to think about the results of the election on a national, state, and local level. I've read up a bit, and done a little research on the secretary of state website. These are my thoughts:   First, on a national level we were obviously wrecked. Here in California McCain was destroyed - in San Diego it looks like he lost by ten points and counting. We did manage to keep the two of the three state Congressional seats which... read more »

Draft Dumanis for Supervisor!

By Mr. Murphy | 11/02/08

The Board of Supervisors is made up of five Republicans: Cox, Roberts, Slater, Jacobs, and Horn. Rumor has it that Supervisor Ron Roberts, who represents a district that makes up the heart of the City of San Diego, will not be running in 2010. Democrat City Councilwoman Donna Fyre has been early out the gate indicating that she is interested in the job. Who do Republicans have who can defeat Frye? The field looks grim, until you consider DA... read more »

This & That

By Mr. Murphy | 10/28/08

* A mail piece was passed around at lunch today that showed 7th District Democrat candidate Marti Emerald driving door to door. Literally 50 pictures of her driving from house to house, most of the houses being very close to each other. Hilarious. It is a little map of the precinct and shows Marti every few inches driving 10 yards to the next house, with the actual houses and pictures. It also shows her car and the gas miliage of that type of... read more »

Sanders Takes on Fire Unions

By Mr. Murphy | 10/23/08

Anyone listening to Roger Hedgecock just now would have heard Mayor Jerry Sanders taking on the firefighter's union yet again. Kudos!   At a certain point if I were a younger firefighter I'd ask myself - "is the rude, confrontational, highly partisan behavior of my new union president really worth sacrificing some of the things I might want from City Hall?" I was here for the Ron years, men, particularly the early and mid years, and while... read more »

Small News Notes

By Mr. Murphy | 10/23/08

What About Whitburn. Around town most people were buying black suits over the last week so they could attend 3rd District Council Candidate Whitburn's political funeral. They assumed that when Whitburn hit the 100k limit that he could loan his campaign he would stop opening his checkbook. But a funny thing happened in the last couple days - the money kept flowing, and Whitburn raised 25k in the last disclosure period. Does this keep him in the... read more »

Goldsmith and Aguirre in the Mail, Too

By Mr. Murphy | 10/17/08

Sounds like both the City Attorney candidates are in the mailbox. I'd really like to see the mail. Anyone who has it, scan and send over to the Mail Fairy at MailFairy@redcounty.com. I heard that Aguirre's piece featured federal candidate Barak Obama. read more »
