Emerald and Lightner

By Mr. Murphy | 03/12/09

As the weeks pass the differences between our new Councilwomen, Marti Emerald and Sherri Lightner, are becoming clear. Emerald is ideological - exactly the liberal union shill she was painted as during the election, maybe worse. Lightner is thoughtful and largely nonpartisan - she looks at each issue as is comes in an almost scientific way. Emerald doesn't study up on the issues before the council, but always has something to say (often... read more »

Saldana v. Steel?

By Mr. Murphy | 03/09/09

Democrat Assemblywoman Lori Saldana has opened a Board of Equalization committee to challenge incumbent Republican Michelle Steel. Now, of course, "reformer" Saldana has also opened a number of other committees, so the dear Lord only knows what is going on in her mind... but from the numbers I looked up the Board of Equalization seat in question is fairly Republican so at least it would be a great opportunity to rid ourselves of an official even... read more »

Assemblyman Marty Block is a Liar

By Mr. Murphy | 03/01/09

Anyone who lives in San Diego County and owns a television would have to remember the never-ending commercials by Democrat Assembly candidate Marty Block stating that he doesn't support new taxes. Last week Block voted for the biggest tax hike in California history. The man is a liar, plain and simple. If you run into him make sure and ask him about his lie. I'll be seeing him shortly I believe, and I will be asking. read more »

Today's Bias Report

By Mr. Murphy | 02/17/09

Last night I was watching the television program "Medium". The storyline was about a terrorist who had blown up a federal courthouse. In one part the terrorist describes the reasons for his activities - citing racism and the children of the elite's draft deferral during Vietnam as the reason for his anti-government activity. Sounded pretty left-wing to me. Later, the cops in the show note that the terrorist was a 'right-wing' lunatic. Huh? Maybe... read more »

LA Times Column Lays Out Cost of Illegal Immigration

By Mr. Murphy | 02/02/09

Illegal immigrants are a factor in California's budget math George Skelton, Capitol Journal February 2, 2009 From Sacramento -- Based on my e-mail, a lot of folks think the solution to California's state budget deficit is to round up all the illegal immigrants and truck them down to Mexico.Wrong. Moonlighting

By Mr. Murphy | 01/27/09

I was reading the comments to the post about County Assessor Greg Smith below and read Richard Rider's comments that firefighters (and presumably any other city workers) are allowed to moonlight. So let me get this straight - we've all seen the salaries of firefighters, and you can argue all day and all night whether they are too high or not but I've not heard many arguments that they are too low, and the city lets them moonlight? Do we pay if... read more »
