Tustin Set To Vote On Parking Ban Tuesday Night

By Mark Bucher | 10/06/08

The Tustin city council is scheduled to vote on a parking ban Tuesday evening. The Council was planning to ban all parking on any street in Tustin from 2 A.M. to 6 P.M., but scaled it back to a neighborhood by neighborhood ban, with parking prohibited entirely just on certain main streets. They have also thrown in a ban on parking recreational vehicles, such as motor homes and boats, on your own property. The most irritating part of this ban,... read more »

The Debbie Cook Lawsuit - a Bad Idea

By Mark Bucher | 03/20/08

Earlier this week, Keith Carlson filed a suit against Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook challenging her ballot designation of "Mayor." Cook is a democrat running against Congressman Dana Rohrabacher. This lawsuit is a bad idea, and should be dropped. As a Republican and supporter of Congressman Rohrabacher, I want to see him win. Unfortunately, even the best outcome in this suit - that is, forcing Cook to... read more »

The Soldier's Night Before Christmas

By Mark Bucher | 12/24/07

I received an email with this poem, which was written some years ago but is still appropriate today. Read it and take a minute to think how different Christmas is for the brave men and women all over the world protecting our freedom. And next time you see a member of our armed forces - don't forget to say "Thanks." The Soldier's Night Before ChristmasThe embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished... read more »

Solving Illegal Immigration - An Intriguing Idea

By Mark Bucher | 12/09/07

Illegal immigration is one of the most widely discussed issues of our day. As such, it is rare to hear new ideas like the one proposed in the September issue of Forbes magazine. The article is titled "Your Bond, Please" and essentially suggests that one method of obtaining a three year work visa would be to provide a bond which would insure that the applicant pay his taxes for those three years. The... read more »

Schroeder's dishonest denial

By Mark Bucher | 12/02/07

It is well known in political circles that Trung Nguyen, Mike Schroeder, and Assemblyman Van Tran began a "scorched earth campaign" against Janet Nguyen after she won her race against Trung Nguyen for Supervisor. This campaign is being waged despite the fact that all three are Republicans who should place holding this seat above their disappointment that Trung lost. One aspect of the scorched earth campaign was for Trung and... read more »

Proposal for board of supervisor tribunals is a bad idea

By Mark Bucher | 11/06/07

This morning's Register contains an opinion piece I wrote on supervisor Moorlach's proposal which would give the board of supervisors the power to remove elected officials from office. Essentially, the proposal would allow any county wide elected official to be removed from office by a vote of 4 supervisors. There is no need to repeat my arguments since you can read them yourself here, but I would like to emphasize a key point that space did... read more »

Orange County Republican Party Asks CAPO Trustees To Resign

By Mark Bucher | 10/15/07

The Orange County Republican Party tonight unanimously passed a resolution asking Capistrano Unified Trustees Sheila Benecke, Mike Darnold, Marlene Draper and Duane Stiff to resign. This unusual action by the Republican Party comes after a report by the Orange County District Attorney concluding that these trustees repeatedly held illegal meetings in violation of the Brown Act, discussed in more detail here, and at the CUSD recall... read more »

More Fuel for the CUSD Recall - DA Finds Multiple Brown Act Violations and Demands Admission of Violations

By Mark Bucher | 10/09/07

The extent of the corruption and incompetence in the Capistrano Unified School District is simply mind boggling. For those of you who are not closely following this, for decades CUSD operated with 7 trustees who were virtual rubber stamps for Superintendent James Fleming. A few years ago some local residents noticed their children were being taught in run down portables and the district was teetering on bankruptcy while Mr. Fleming was building... read more »

Capistrano Recall Update - Cable Show on District Corruption to Air Tonight

By Mark Bucher | 09/12/07

Full Disclosure has produced a cable series set to air tonight on the issues leading up to the current recall of the trustees in that district. I have seen the preview of this series and it was very good. The contempt this district and the trustees have shown for the citizens they are supposed to represent is astonishing. Below is an announcement from the recall committee regarding the program. Click on the link to see the preview, and watch... read more »
