Message from Massachusetts: Words Matter, Mr. President

By Angela F. F. Davis | 07/26/09 | 8:16 PM EDT | 2 Comments

Last week’s comments by President Obama completely derailed his White House press conference on healthcare. Rahm Emanuel must have been pulling his hair out watching this train wreck in motion; every politician knows that you never allow a potentially toxic topic to derail and end your press conference.  What had been intended to drum up ratings and support for Obama’s healthcare package ended up as a public relations disaster. The message everyone got, after OBAMA’s disastrous healthcare discussion, is that he thinks the Cambridge Police “acted stupidly”.

Nice.

So just to be sure you caught it, the comment was directed at a police officer who showed up at the Ware Street, Cambridge home of Harvard Professor Gates last week; he was responding to a call of an alleged break-in.  What ensued was that Professor Gates was arrested by Sgt. Crowley of the Cambridge police force and this act was characterized an incident in racial profiling rather than law enforcement simply doing their job.

Without an investigation concluded, without all the facts in hand, and without all parties completely debriefed, POTUS simply said, and I repeat:  The Cambridge Police “acted stupidly”.

To make matters worse, our own Governor chose not to defend his own law enforcement folks.  Rather than repudiating the insults POTUS tossed up the Northeast coast line, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick decided to snuggle up a little further to Obama, stating that a mistake was made in the arrest.

What the President forgot, too, albeit briefly, is that words matter.  Having preceded his statement with an admission that he did not know all the facts he threw a stone in the direction of the Massachusetts Brotherhood of Police, and chimed in on an issue about which he was completely uninformed.

He was dead wrong.

He quickly realized the next day that his words were political malpractice and insulting.  To call the police stupid is unforgivable.  His subjective opinion was based not on fact, but arose from his friendship with the Professor “Skip” Gates.  But, it would not be a news conference or so later before he threw his friend Gates under the bus.

Summation of POTUS statement:  Crowley and the rest of his band of brothers are bigots and stupid.

Sgt. Crowley should be quite angry.  His brothers in the police union have a right to be asking for an apology.  Crowley, fully credentialed, has successfully taught at the Lowell Police Academy for five years, and is seen as a very qualified and respected professional according to the former Cambridge Police Commissioner who happens to be African American.

The Police Report which was made available on line for a brief period of time is attached here.  It no longer exists, I am told, on line, perhaps because those in the liberal bastions of our state are more interested in protecting the pervasive liberal bias.  Note that the Boston Herald is the only major daily reporting the incident and the Boston Globe is pretty much hands off any news story that depicts a liberal democrat in a “not so pretty” position.  Such media bias here in Boston does not go unnoticed.

Think before you speak.  Words matter.

Can Americans afford National Healthcare?

By Don Ordway | 06/10/09 | 3:43 PM EDT | 0 Comments

Will the thought of receiving something for nothing overpower the American Voter? Allowing them to turn their lives over to the government to deal with? Surrendering to Government Healthcare will be the most expensive freebee that they will ever receive, and they can bet all of our lives on that.

Is Government Healthcare about fairness; or is it the transfer of power and control to the political machine that designed it.

Socialized medicine has been a dismal failure around the world, yet we think it will work here.

Whether U. S. borders are open or closed Americans will be forced to provide free healthcare to everyone in need. This costly benefit will of course occur incrementally. Patients denied expensive treatments in other countries will come here where it will be free to those that can’t pay. Before long the broken healthcare systems around the world will out perform ours.

Rationing plans will kickoff the beginning of Government Healthcare. Polititians will continue their lust for spending until ink barrels run dry; bankrupting this nation. Americans will find themselves in a hole so deep they’ll think they’re living in Europe.

National Healthcare will introduce a new level of rage. After surrendering and comparing our present system with a new Government Healthcare system it will be clear that we have been duped again. We must demand that our minds search forward into the government plan that will introduce devastating results to our most vulnerable.

Healthcare is expensive today but at least it’s available.  Polititians intentionally drove administrative cost and overall cost of healthcare higher in order to unlock the door to the government plan. Government managed programs will forever under perform the private sector programs. The U. S. Military being the only exception.

Threats of healthcare cutbacks and rationing will convince everyone to approve tax increases of the future; placing lives before money. Our own budgets will be overwhelmed. Long lines in the emergency room will grow much longer. Treatments once performed in days will be delayed for months. Doctors from other parts of the world will have fewer incentives to relocate here with many that are already here leaving; going home.

Tax increases will be necessary forcing the governments free healthcare plan to drift out of the reach of the middle class, forcing acceptance of care that would be totally unacceptable by today’s standards.

Tax increases will affect everyone, rich and poor alike which may be a good thing.  When everyone pays their way they tend to research all costs. The new taxes created will fund undesirable programs; pork programs investing leftovers in healthcare.

Studies will surface stating that aggressive treatment for diseases such as breast and prostate cancer are no longer necessary in many cases. Patients will be diagnosed by their age not their condition. People 65 and older better have connections. This will not happen the first year but by the fifth year it will be in full swing.

Government Healthcare will deny treatments for certain illnesses forcing patients to travel to Mexico with credit cards in hand for needed care; as many do today for medication.

There will be two plans, plan “A” an plan “B”. Most will fall into plan “B”, elitist will enjoy plan “A”. Preferential treatment cannot be avoided with a socialized anything.

Most Americans are happy with their existing healthcare plan. Why not focus on the few that are not? Why destroy the greatest healthcare system in the world for one that has failed everywhere else? There are so many better options available beyond the government healthcare. We need to fix the existing plan not break it. Seventy-five per cent are happy with their plan. Some uninsured should consider downsizing the BMW for healthcare insurance. Are we destroying a great healthcare plan by turning it into World Healthcare Scam.
