Please. This guy is a liar. More than 3/4 of Floridians do not want illegal aliens here and do not want amnesty. And no matter what he says now, Rubio sabotaged efforts to have sane and reasonable anti-illegal immigration legislation passed last year. He is singing a different tune, or trying to smooth it over now by saying he is agains amnesty (when he is all for it) because he wants to appeal to all conservative Floridians and run for Martinez' seat. Do not believe him. He is a reincarnation of Martinez and John McCain - a RINO just like our governor, and wants to give YOUR job to an illegal alien. Wake up, Florida, if you do not want to be part of a third-world country. This guy is just like Obama, a smooth-looking, smooth-talking snake oil salesman.

|Well, "other" Anonymous, before I made this comment, there were PLENTY of links, and I followed up on them, from another commenter as to Rubio's blocking of any immigration legislation last year. Somehow, those comments and links have disappeared, but that does not make them untrue. There was also an article in the Miami Herald which I read at the time, last year. You should educate yourself. What do you know about the legislation proposed last year and then blocked by Rubio? He was Speaker and he BLOCKED ALL OF THAT LEGISLATION, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SANE AND REASONABLE. The Speaker can do this, you know. He and two other ethnocentric (racist) Hispanics, Rivera and Zapata, additionally called people opposed to illegal immigration the racists. Again, this guy is a liar. If he was against AND BLOCKED, AS SPEAKER, the legislation, surely he's for amnesty. Before you support someone, look into their past. Actions speak louder than words. And do some research on the immigration bills now being considered (because there is a different Speaker, not Rubio), and they haven't been blocked. At least they're being considered.

|Miami Herald article ran on April 17, 2008, and was entitled, "Miami-Dade Lawmakers Stymie Immigration Bills". (That would be Rubio and his friends.) You can Google the article. There is also a YouTube clip, "Florida House Speaker Rubio Defends Illegal Immigration?". That should be easy to access. Do your homework instead of going for a pretty face. That's how we got Obama.

|Please top already. You are making a fool of yourself
1. I read the Herald article. It doesn't say he blocked it.
2. You ASSUME because Zapata and Rivera spoke out , Rubio was
behind it. Article doesnt say that.
3. You Tube clip is a production piece with a voiceover. Not video of
Rubio. I could produce one saying he is a space alien, it doesn't make
it true.
4. Rubio as a RINO concept is laughable. This is one of the most
conservative legislators. He is the ONLY one in Tally who has stood
up to Crist on Gambling, Taxes, Climate Change etc. He is 100% voting
record on Abortion, Guns and Taxes.
Please stop using this site as your personal graffiti wall.

|Please stop using this page as a place to post your grafitti about Rubio.
1. I saw the You Tube video reference. It is just a production piece with a voiceover. I could produce one that says he is an space alien. That wouldn't make it true.
2. The Herald article does not say Rubio blocked the bills. It says he did not make them a priority.
3. Your claim that because the two representatives who spoke up against the bills are hispanic and therefore Rubio must be behind it is ridiculous. For example, the majority of the hispanic legislators favor expanded gaming. Rubio does not.
4. Finally calling Rubio a RINO shows how out of touch you really are. Rubio has a record of:
- tax cuts
-pro-life
-anti-gambling
-anti climate change mandates
- pro gun rights
He has fought Crist on EVERY RINO position he has taken
Please go back to your fringe corner of the world and stop defacing this site.

|Despite what you are trying to say, Rubio is (or has been) on the wrong side of the immigration issue. If you think the Miami Herald paper exonerates him, well, what can I say? You just can't read, or don't want to know the truth. He is just like Mike Huckabee. When running for president Huckabee even managed to get a good grade out of NumbersUSA -- which was promptly corrected when the truth came out: that as Governor of Arkansas he was at the forefront of the movement supporting illegal immigration, wanted in-state tuition, opened a Mexican Consulate, pandered to La Raza, and on and on. Rubio is just like him -- when it served his purpose, he blocked legislation controlling illegal immigration. NOW, that he wants to be senator, he changes his tune. I wouldn't trust him - and certainly wouldn't vote for him! And I don't live in a "fringe corner". I am a conservative who would like the Republican Party to return to its conservative roots - which it will not do with the likes of Marco Rubio. Rubio -- NOT!

|You should really do some fact checking before you start spouting off on issues of which you obviously know very little of. Actually, why don't you just come clean -- it's so apparent you're a Rubio supporter -- staffer, family member, friend? Yes, he is a RINO. He received so many calls re: the six illegal immigration bills similar to AZ, OK, etc. and he IGNORED THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. Why would I ever want to elect another PRO AMNEATY/PRO ILLEGALS ignore the people's will senator? Rubio is just like Martinez. They are both huge hypocrites and we who detest them both will work very hard to defeat them. Count on it. :-)

|And I'm guessing you also believe that Obama's "Certification of Live Birth" also is his birth certificate and "proves" he's a natural born citizen. I'm guessing you still believe in the tooth fairy as well. Wake up! Read a little more. You sound very naive and/or uneducated! To say that "Rubio did not make the immigration bills a priority" is like saying "Obama really doesn't want amnesty -- he wants people who came here illegally to pay a fine, get in line, etc. (have to act all tough for those sucker Americans who don't really pay close attention). When in fact, Obama and the rest of the Democratic slimeballs have every intention of passing amnesty this FALL! See: www.numbersusa.com

|I saw Rubio's "Will you stand with me?" video on You Tube. Not a fan -- at all.
He and his "crew" in the FL state house conspired BEFORE THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION" to NOT even allow the six illegal immigration bills to be HEARD. This is democracy?!? We had approximately 200k ILLEGAL ALIENS who voted in the 2008 presidential election. I guess he's ok with this since he's PRO ILLEGAL/PRO AMNESTY! He makes me sick. He's a RINO and sadly, most people who don't pay attention to the candidates or the issues will vote for this clown. I will actively campaign for any GOP candidate who runs against him! He is a TRAITOR!!!!!!!!!! And, by the way, any negative postings on his You Tube video are promptly removed (I save the video and give it a poor rating any time I'm on You Tube though -- two can play that game). What a hypocrite Rubio is! He should cross the aisle and take Martinez (another Cuban first/American second traitor), McCain, Lugar, etc. with him. I guess he's Cuban/pro Hispanic first, "American second." Disgusting. Multiculturalism is ruining this country... Whatever happened to just being an AMERICAN?!? Be proud of your culture, but be an American FIRST!

|Whenever Rubio and Obama open their mouths, pretty much nothing but LIES come out. He's in campaign mode now -- he'll say anything to sound tough on illegals because he knows 76% of Floridians OPPOSE amnesty for illegals. He is so full of crap. I've seen numerous You Tube videos with him, Rivera, etc. speaking in the state house and it's so obvious they're PRO ILLEGELAS! And, please Rubio, you were Speaker of the House -- you could have moved any bill to the floor for a vote. You chose not to because you support amnesty. I saw several You Tube videos with you Rivera, etc. (your Cuban, first generation gang in the FL House) stating that you don't "want to punish undocumented immigrants", etc. You all said you were first generation Americans, from Cuba. SO?!?!?!? It's obvious where your loyalties lie. And it will be made known -- letters to the editor, rally's, etc. You are going to have a hard fight to win the GOP primary. You have far too many enemies because you're a liar, plain and simple. Do they teach Lying 101 in law school or what?!?

|I can't say that I identify with any of Rubio's positions but Ill give him sitting through this interview.
Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe who this Manjarres character is. His questions were aweful and his knowledge of Rubio's legislative carreer was rather slim if at all existant.
Rubio is too strong a conservative for me to ever vote for him (yes, I'm a Democrat) but its rather sad how he has to pony up to this web site and the hard right if he wants support from his party.

|Good ol' Mel, when he was running in the primary, walked the walk and talked the talk regarding the whole issue of illegal aliens and amnesty. We all know now just what that load of BS was worth. I must say that with good ol' Mel I smelled a rat all along. After all he was W's boy from the get go. Iprobably agree with 99% of Rubio's positions. I thought as speaker, overall, he did a good job. At the very least he did stand up to Crist. But, I will NOT Vote again for anyone who even appears to be weak on the issue stated above. Once burned twice shy. One point of clarification, I do not include those fleeing the repressive Communist regime in Cuba to be Illegal in any sense of the word. Wet foot or dry.

|I am not sold on this guy. He is a lawyer who doesn't seem to know the law. First, as speaker of the house he had quite an influence on the legislative process. From a legal perspective let me tell you how he has handled a few problems.
Taxes
A few years ago the counties tried to claim that the courts should be paid for by the state. The state of course claimed they were too poor to pay for the courts and after a battle in the courts sided with the counties.
The state through the Rubio's office has put in place what is called a fee based system. It basically means that the courts will be paid for by people who get traffic tickets. The cost of a traffic ticket is now higher than ever before. It is way out of wack with the past. Some infractions actually cost more than criminal offenses. The state through Rubio found another way to tax individuals. The state now is being sued because the fees collected in courts are now going into general revenue. So, they are still underfunding courts, and they are using revenue from the court system to pay for projects that couldn't or even shouldn't be funded. The problem with the legislature is they don't know how to say no to spending.
Right to Life
I often hear legislators talk the pro-life talk as they walk the abortion/women's rights tightrope. The truth is that in Florida they have not passed an effective pro-life law the entire time that Mr. Rubio has been in office.
A few years ago they did pass a parental notification law. However, the law was poorly written and was overturned by the Florida Supreme Court. In overturning the law the Court made specific findings that gave the legislature a reason why the law was unconstitutional and actually suggested how it could be made acceptable constitutionally.
The problem was two fold. First, Justice Barbara Pariente whould never uphold a law that would limit the woman's right to choose. She is of the mistaken belief that Roe v. Wade established a right to an abortion instead of a right to privacy. Second, Florida statues includes a provision that allows a mother who is married, yet under the age of majority, to make the decision to discontinue life support on her child if that child were in a continuous vegetative state. That law comes from the premise that a young woman who gets married even though she is under the age of 18 creates an emancipation from her parents and brings her to majority. In other words, if you're 15 and your parents let you marry you are considered an adult. (Now there's a sad commentary on parenthood.)
The significance is that the Court has used this as an excuse to prevent the parental notifications laws from taking effect. The legislature knows that if they were to remedy that law than parents could be informed when their daughter was engaging in unsafe sex. By the way, the law only allowed parents to be informed of daughter's decision to get an abortion not to in any way stop that abortion. That doesn't seem a very strong pro-life position. Instead, the legislature has abdicated their role as writers of the law to the Court, a liberal court at that.
Amesty
I hear Rubio even in this interview discuss the "we've got to solve the immigration problem," speak. These politicians don't want to hear what the people who are the citizens of this nation think. If he were to open his ears and listen he would be able to answer questions like this: Why are we allowing the Mexican govenment dictate our immigration policy? Why is the poverty of every nation the problem of the United States and not the problem of that country? Why must we pay for the education, the health care, the welfare, the maternity costs of people who are not citizens and do not pay for these services themselves?
Don't tell me that everyone here is the decendant of an immigrant. Don't tell me that because I object to the flood of social benefit seekers crashing the gates of our nation that I am prejudice. Don't tell me that when I go to Miami I should have to learn to speak Spanish so I don't get lost, or taken advantage of, or even attacked.
Mr. Rubio's parents should be commended for conquering the struggles that immigration creates, but forget not that they have immigrated to the greatest nation on earth, a place that allows one the opportunity to succeed. When did that opportunity become a demand. When did the melting pot become salad bowl with each group demanding their rights over all americans.
When you hear some politician say they do the jobs that americans won't do, tell them that my son will do it but he can't compete with those who don't pay taxes. He can't get the construction job because it is cheaper to pay the illegal worker. Mr. Rubio please don't placate me be telling me the unions are the ones that want to stop immigration. That is simply not true. No one in government wants to stop immigration because they all believe that it will benefit them in some way. Your time has not arrived Marco. Go back to the drawing board and recreate yourself.

|Why is it that postings with the name "Anonymous" is given even a first look? Those who want their opinions and positions heard and believed should be willing to have their names attached.
As for Mr. Rubio, he has a voting record and leadership record for the citizens of Florida to see. If he voted for the opinions and beliefs of the majority of those who elected him, then he voted correctly! All politicians need to remember that we elect them to be our voice, the voice of registered and active voters, not pollsters, not illegals, not felons, not people who sit on the sidelines and simply complain, not want to be politicians that never come forward to hold office, volunteer and certainly not those that offer their sound bites under the name "Anonymous".
As conservatives, we can only look at the current Washington leadership to know that someone like Mr. Rubio would continue his fight for legislation that will be best for Florida and better for all Americans. We need someone such as Mr. Rubio that will oppose bailouts, oppose granting amnesty to those who enter our borders illegally and only take from our country, someone who will oppose the democratic spending sprees, and who oppose the every action that supports the thought that more government and more pork barrel spending will fix everything.
If you are bored today and need to throw darts at politicians who speak from both sides of their mouths, chose some that are worthy of your time and very easily offer you a bulls eye: Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry…….oh will that group ever spell term limits????

|Rubio on immigration in this video only said that he would support fences and border control. Yeah, the country is already filled with 14-22 million illegals at the cost to Taxpayers of $336 Billion per year. In the state of Florida it is $3.8 Billion per year, not chump change folks. This money should be used for improving the lives of Legal Citizens!!! But, what really caught my attention was that Rubio only acknowleged that there were aliens here illegally and how most of them get around the system by coming here on visas and then stay once their visa has expired. He did NOT say if he thought that was okay or a bad thing. He did not say, we should enforce our immigration laws and deport these people breaking the law. What he did not say is more telling than what he did say...
Amnesty? It is what he did not say that is alarming...
And I don't care that someone posts an opinion under 'anonymous'...who cares...a poster can make up any name they like...how do you know they are who they say they are??? So to appease you...my name is Anna Morales...or is it???

|Did you not hear the part where he said he supports deportation if police arrest an illegal? Clean the ears buddy.. the wax is building up.

|There's the rub. "IF" police arrest and illegal.... first the
police need to be "allowed" to arrest illegals. Next, you have to actually
enforce the laws that already exist.
What is Rubio stand on this? What action did he take while in the House
to bring this about?
I am new to Florida, only 2 years so if you can give me some actual FACTS
and not "just words" it would do me a world of good.
Thanks!

|How about an answer to the following two questions? I would need an answer to those before I would consider backing him, or anybody else for that matter.
1. Would he write and present for vote a bill wherein Florida would join in all the other states that are so far invoking the protection of the 10th Amendment against our corrupt, Constitution bastardizing Federal Government?
2. How does he feel about the H.R. 1207? Would he be on board for that?
Answers to those two questions would be very telling on just how "conservative" or "liberal" he really is. I have been burned so many times now, the only way I will vote for ANYBODY is to research their voting records. Sorry, but they all say what they think we need to hear to vote for them, then once their in, WHAM, a whole new agenda. Therefore, it is incumbent on us to check their history out, that is the only way we can see where their principles truly lie.
This would do double duty for him too in that he would have pushed a very, very important piece of legislation BEFORE he ran for a Senate seat.
An affirmation answer to either or both of these would look damn good on his resume to a large portion of Florida voters.

For example, Gov. Huckabee did NOT open a Mexican consulate.
