Linda Ackerman Should Resign From Being An RNC Committeewoman

As California's female representative to the Republican National Committee, Linda Ackerman is supposed to be a leader in helping to rebuild our party and to get the GOP message of smaller goverment out to as many as possible.  She is now running to get elected to the State Assembly.  In the course of campaigning, she has mailed some fliers to Democratic households as I noted yesterday on this page.  In these mailers, she specifically said this...

Linda Ackerman is not defined by being a Republican.

and...

Open to new ideas, Linda won't toe the party line, but she'll do what's right for our community and our state.

Ummm, you can't serve two masters Linda.  Which is it gonna be?  If you don't define yourself as a Republican, then I really don't want you representing me and the rest of the state to the national party.  In case you didn't notice, we're trying to regain our believability and credibility on economic issues back from the trashcan after eight years of George W Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger.  As Ronald Reagan said...

"we need to be raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people"

Since you no longer define yourself as a Republican, I am asking you to step down from your post and let someone who does want to fight for our party and our principles take over the post.

I must agree with you Allan.

I must agree with you Allan.  Our next step after the election is to get her tossed off of the MWD water district board. I can't afford to pay any more water tax increases that Linda has voted for.

AMEN

Linda really stepped out of line with that one.  I have no problem with her mailing to Democrats - everyone does it; but to say that she's not "defined as a Republican" is really out of character and unacceptable for someone who wants to call herself the party's Committeewoman.

This does not bode well for her.

I am no fan of Ackerman by

I am no fan of Ackerman by any stretch of the imagination.

It is obvious Chris Norby would be an unquestionably more affective legislature.

However, the logic in this post is faulty as best.

There is no contradiction in the mailer and her role at the RNC. Yes, Ackerman is being less than honest as she will just follow the party line and would not get anything done for her community. Alas, at least she is misrepresenting herself with a decent ideal!

There is a good point to made however, with respect to the mailer, and it relates to Ackerman's opportunism, yes all politicians are by their nature opportunistic. But we need to think of it as a sliding scale. On the one end is a candidate who feels they might be able to move up and have a bigger impact on what they are already achieving. On other end is Ackerman, an out of office politico with no links to the people of a community and their issues, party politics hardly qualify, who sees an opening to use sleaze to undermine a candidate with whom she wants to settle a score. And HEY, if she can get a few democrats to vote for her along the way claiming to be "open minded" (as to what, who knows!), why shouldn't she take advantage of the opportunity...

She never said she was going

She never said she was going to be "open minded".  That would have been completely acceptable.  What she said (verbatim) was:

Linda Ackerman is not defined by being a Republican.

I am confident that the plethora of delegates who voted for Linda to represent our Republican values in the RNC would not be happy to hear/read that confession of non-Republicanism.

Fair enough?

Waz up with that?

So why isn't this cause for her to be brought up on Ethics charges with that tough as nails Ethics Committee at the OC GOP???

Wow!

Sadly, I have to agree with you here.  We as a Party should always look for the candidate who most closely resembles our Party Platform and we can have confidence in to staunchly support it - especially in Sacramento!

I say, "Sadly," because sometimes campaign consultants and strategists make bad judgment calls (with the best of intentions) that adversely affect their clients.  I hope for Linda's sake that is the case here and she promptly comes out strongly against the message in that mailer and fires the person responsible.

There are far better ways to reach out to Democrat voters without basically apologizing for being a Republican: Taxes for example, are colorblind and negatively impact all individuals and families regardless of ethnicity or Party affiliation; Out of control spending is another one...  The list goes on where she can appeal to all voters by touting her Republican  philosophy as strengths instead of sending the message our Platform is somehow less than desirable.

Unless there is a retraction from her regarding the anti-Republican stance taken in that mailer, she should no longer expect or enjoy any sort of support from the OCGOP and as you stated, should also resign or be removed from her RNC position.

Have to Agree

I will also have to agree with Allan.  I am kind of mystified as to what happened in this race.  I thought Norby was our go to conservative candidate that everyone was going to rally around.

We really need leaders today who are willing to stand up for what they believe in and be tireless advocates for the free market, smaller government and pro-family policies.

Who can we back in this race?

Voice of Reason

Allen,

You are right on track with this.  Since I first read the mailer I have been totally shocked that none of her republican supporters have spoken out or at least stopped supporting her.

Thanks for being the voice of reason.

Tim may be right again

I used to think Tim W. was crazy but but now it seems he is the only member of the GOP who puts principle above politics. I wish Tim would speak up at the next Central Committee meeting and call for Linda to be stripped of any and all positions in the Republican Party.  I've spoken to at least 20 other GOP central committee members who want to see us take action and others who think it's time for Scot Baugh to step down.. Dick Ackerman is making himself look very foolish through all of this. Poor Linda.

Giving up, or even infering

Giving up, or even infering that you are giving up, your principles to gain office is a sell out for personal gain. Nothing more, nothing less. I was formerly on the fence as concerns those two but not anymore. This sounds somewhat like what is going on in NY. If Baugh can't bring the OCGOP around then it is about time for fresh, new and young activists to clean out the cobwebs. After all they don't believe in carrying the water for anyone for past favors. It's all about conservative principles. Nothing else matters.
