Steve Poizner visits Walnut for Business Roundtable
By Allen Wilson | 11/07/09 | 2:49 AM EDT | 0 Comments
State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, GOP candidate for Governor of California, made a stop at Walnut for his 11th Business Roundtable to discuss with business leaders about the state of the economy, jobs, education and taxes.
Mr. Poizner was joined by State Senator Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar, District 29) and State Assemblyman Curt Hagman (R-Chino Hills, District 60) who both have endorsed the Insurance Commissioner's quest to be the next Governor.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported the story here.
What was not reported by the paper is Mr. Poizner's optimism for California's future and acknowledges that the problems we have are man made, because of political failure that exists in Sacramento with unintended consequences.
It is refreshing to listen and witness a candidate who is willing to have a dialogue with substance by being human and showing empathy about the existing problems.
The critical aspects of being a leader is showing results with proven track record. Mr. Poizner pointed out his ability to reduce and streamline the operations in the Department of Insurance, which is the only state agency has cut 15% of expenses.
It has been said that all politics are local and campaigns are retail, which can be a challenge for any candidate and obviously Mr. Poizner is taking his campaign through candid conversations without the glare of the lights, stage and teleprompters.
The people of California is yearning for leaders who are willing to step up to the plate to make the Golden State "Home" once again through optimism, action and hope.

MSM Gives Frank Schubert and Jeff Flint Some Ink!
By Sgt. York | 11/06/09 | 9:11 PM EDT | 1 Comment
Yes, THAT Jeff Flint! The founder of Red County Placer... you see, Jeff is a partner in the leading political consulting firm in America defending family values.
The MSM gives Schubert-Flint PA (the 2009 Winner of some consultant award - the equivalent of the MVP in Baseball, though) some grudging praise.
Their article points out repeatedly that people really believe in Gay marriage until Frank Schubert figured out in some right-wing focus group that running ads depicting the homosexual children's books was the ticket.
You can read the article here
Far be it from me to say - but the people that wrote/edited this article seemed irritated. I wish I could have been there when they finally decided to include the sentence about how Gay Marriage has lost all 31 times it has gone to the ballot. Of course, they leave out that the Courts (again, like with abortion, rights that nenver existed before for criminals/terrorists/illegal aliens) were and are the only way to force Gay Marriage on society.
But, I digress - oh and notice that this article gets buried in the late friday wire.
Thank you Schubert-Flint for defending the fabric of society.

Lt Gov Watch: New Candidate Emerging for Appointment
By Chris Emami | 11/05/09 | 2:29 PM EDT | 4 Comments
This morning, Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi was sworn in as a member of the US House of Representatives, thereby leaving the post of Lieutenant Governor vacant. I previously blogged about that here, but most people probably missed since the Mike Duvall scandal buried that post a short time later.
However, since that post, I've heard from multiple sources in Sacramento that there's a buzz going around the Capitol about the Governor appointing former Republican Northern California Assemblyman Stan Statham. Statham is now a registered decline-to-state and is President of the California Broadcasters Association. Influential politicians on both sides of the aisle who have the ear of the Governor are apparently lobbying the Governor to pick Statham.
There are several key factors in favor of a Statham pick:
- The Governor has an excellent relationship with Statham.
- He'd be a caretaker. As a registered independent, he is of minimal threat to any of the candidates running for Lieutenant Governor since independents almost never win elections. Plus, he will be 71 next year; if he were to run for the post, he would be 75 years old when the term expires.
- He would be easily confirmed, as he is popular with current legislators from both sides of the aisle in both houses.
- If picked, he would not trigger a series of special elections (unlike picking a legislator).
- He's articulare and media-savvy as head of the Broadcasters Association, as well as a former television news anchor.
- He understands the political process, having spent 18 years in the Assembly.
I've not heard other media sources covering this story despite multiple solid sources in the Capitol backing it, so you heard it here first on Red County: Stan Statham is a major contender for appointment to the Lieutenant Governor's post.

Will Dr. Anthony Fellow step down from Water Board?
By Allen Wilson | 11/04/09 | 5:19 PM EDT | 0 Comments
Yesterday, Dr. Anthony (Tony) Fellow, Director on the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District Board of Directors from District 1, has defeated 16 year incumbent Beth Wells-Miller for the seat on the Pasadena City College (PCC) Board of Trustees from Trustee Area 7.
PASADENA AREA COMM COLLEGE - GOV BD MEMBER TR AREA 7

| Candidate | Votes | Percent | |
| TONY FELLOW | 1,195 | 48.66 | |
| S B WELLS-MILLER | 1,030 | 41.94 | |
| DONNA M WILSON | 231 | 9.41 |
However, the question remains: Will Dr. Fellow step down from the Water Board?
Dr. Fellow needs to be reminded that he can't serve in both offices due to a long standing 1990 opinion (90-892)from the California Attorney General's office regarding Ed Chavez who was elected to the La Puente City Council and subsequently served on the Bassett School District Board of Education. The attorney general concluded, "that the offices of school board trustee and City Council member are incompatiable where the city and district have territory in common."
In 2003, West Covina Councilman Roger Hernandez attempted to serve dual offices on the city council and on the Rowland Unified School District Board of Education. On, May 31, 2003, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported that Hernandez must step down or face legal action from the Los Angeles County District Attorney. Therefore, Hernandez did finally step down from the school board.
In 2005, then-Rosemead Councilman John Tran attempted to take a page from Mr. Hernandez's book by serving on the Garvey School District Board of Education and on the Rosemead City Council. However, Mr. Tran got the message from the community and did leave the school board and assume his new duties as a councilmember. (Note: Now, Mr. Tran is El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustee-Elect according to latest election results from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office).
It is with hope that Dr. Fellow will understand that dual elective offices didn't work for Mr. Hernandez and Mr. Tran and it shouldn't work for him.
Therefore, Dr. Fellow should educate himself on the dual office issue and do what any reasonable person would do, resign from the water board soon and move on to his new duties as a Trustee on the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees.

In Memoriam: Earline Mountjoy
By Allen Wilson | 11/04/09 | 2:02 PM EDT | 0 Comments
It is deeply sad to learn the passing of Earline Mountjoy, wife of former State Senator Dick Mountjoy (R-Monrovia, District 29).
Republican Party of Los Angeles County Chairman Jane Barnett just sent out an e-mail communication about the sad news:
I am sad to report that Earline Mountjoy, wife of Senator Dick Mountjoy passed away a few days ago.
Earline was born in Searcy, Arkansas, and moved with her family to California when she was a few weeks old.
Shortly before graduating from Monrovia Arcadia Duarte High School (MAD) at 18 years of age, Earline married her high school sweetheart, Dick Mountjoy. They were happily married for 57 years.
Earline was a devoted and loving wife and stay-at-home Mom for her three children, Michael, Dennis and Judy, and a loving grandmother of six grandchildren and great-grandmother of five great-grandchildren. Her family was the joy of her life and she was so proud of their achievements. She loved her family, her home and Monrovia, calling it "God's country". Earline always had a generous spirit and wonderful sense of humor.
A quiet, behind the scenes supporter of many projects, Earline never wanted to be in the limelight.
Earline attended Sierra Madre Congregational Church. She was an active volunteer with the Children's Hospital Guild and also volunteered at Arcadia Hospital, telephoning shut-ins and visiting those who could not be reached on the phone. One year, much to her surprise, Earline was the Grand Marshall in the Monrovia Christmas Parade, only being told of this honor, once she was in the car, and realizing that it wasn't about Dick.
Earline loved entertaining and cooking for large groups and parties, especially for her family and friends, and her husband's and son's political fundraisers. Her pies and cookies were delicious and freely shared with friends and family. She once baked a 6 foot cake in the shape of California for a celebration of the reapportionment initiative. Her baked beans were loved by everyone. She looked forward to an annual beach party with friends and Halloween and Christmas parties held in her home. She loved creating unique Halloween costumes for herself, Dick and her children. She was quite a seamstress. Earline had a special talent in decorating her home for holidays, creating special memories for friends and family. She also loved gardening.
Earline's laugh was infectious and she loved playing practical jokes.
Earline will be missed by her husband, retired Senator Dick Mountjoy, son Michael and daughter-in-law Suzie Mountjoy, son Dennis Mountjoy, daughter Judy and son-in-law Gary Schaeffler, grandchildren Tammy and Trevor Whitmore, Michael and Nicholas Mountjoy, Heidi and Richard Stevens, Tyler and Kyle Schaeffler and great-grandchildren Diego, Sarah, Richard, Summer, and Lelia sister Evelyn Thompson and her many friends.
Services:
The service for Earline is scheduled for Thursday, November 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Sierra Madre Congregational Church, 170 W Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre. Graveside at Live Oak Memorial Park, 200 E Duarte, Monrovia, Reception to follow at the Aztec Hotel, 311 W Foothill Blvd., in Monrovia.
