"Big Daddy" Unruh's Daughter Runs for Office

Posted by: Mike Spence | 08/13/2008 8:58 AM

Jesse Unruh is a legend in California politics.Former Speaker of the Assembly, State Treasurer and so much more.

Now his daughter is throwing her hat in the ring. Linda Unruh Fuentes has filed for the Water Replenishments District of Southern California. She and a couple other candidates are running against the controversial incumbent Albert Robles. Robles is in trial over some charges over campaign  violations.

The District is huge and includes Bellflower, Carson, Compton, Downey, La Habra Heights, Norwalk, Paramount, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, and Whittier. Her husband in city manager of Pico Riveria and a political heavyweight as well.

In order at win she will need plenty of Mother's Milk.

"controversial?" - in what way?

Also to be clear, to the extent it matters to you and I realize it may not, the campaign violations I am charged with stem from me sending two anonymous campaign mailers, that encouraged people to go vote and in no way attacked anyone or said anything negative. (Yes contrary to my attorney's advice, I admit the act and have so admitted to the District Attorney too.)

In addition to the U.S. Supreme Court in McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission holding that citizens have a First Amendment right to distribute anonymous political fliers as has been done by individuals throughout our history literally since our founding, I am being charged for doing something that is generally at worst handled by the FPPC exclusively. Yes, many many politicians in office today and various labor and business groups have been simply fined for doing what I did, and in most cases for doing worse because they mailed negative hit pieces; yet, I get prosecuted?

controversial, no - a victim of a political persecution, yes.

Albert Robles doesn't need the charge of campaign violations "oh poor me, I'm being persecuted because I am Latino". Boy how many times have I heard him say that. This guy has best friends like Convicted Felon Albert T Robles of South Gate, Disbarred Attorney Cristeta Paguirigan, Klaparda, Summers and many more just like them. It is no crime to defend an Illegal Alien like Angel Gonzalez and Albert Robles but he doesn't have to do it for free. (Albert T Robles had a Public Defender at the time he had Albert Robles Atty. Albert Robles Carson is a walking time bomb and anyone who votes for him deserves what they get. He's allready voted himself more pay raises and perks not including raising our water fees.

For many many years, I ignored ignorant stupid comments like Virginia's (if that is your real name), but I learned that if unchallenged stupid and ignorant people like Virginia will believe this bullshit, hence my response to any comment anywhere, including here.

My response point for point:
"Albert Robles doesn't need the charge of campaign violations "oh poor me, I'm being persecuted because I am Latino". Boy how many times have I heard him say that.
- First, I do not even understand the first sentence, proving your stupidity and ignorance of simple English. If you want, I will find you an on-line English course so that our discourse may improve. Second, I submit that NOBODY who can read and understand the U.S. Constitution and American history can say with a straight face that I should be CRIMINALLY prosecuted for distributing an anonymous campaign piece that did not attack anyone and simply encouraged people to vote.

"This guy has best friends like Convicted Felon Albert T Robles of South Gate, Disbarred Attorney Cristeta Paguirigan, Klaparda, Summers and many more just like them. It is no crime to defend an Illegal Alien like Angel Gonzalez and Albert Robles but he doesn't have to do it for free. (Albert T Robles had a Public Defender at the time he had Albert Robles Atty."
- I don't know you and you do not know me, so how the %#@! do you know who my best friends are or are not? Oh, because you see me represent someone they are my best friend? Because you see me at an event talking with someone they are my best friend? Are you really that stupid? So should I ask for your permission before I agree to represent someone?

"Albert Robles Carson is a walking time bomb and anyone who votes for him deserves what they get. He's allready voted himself more pay raises and perks not including raising our water fees."
- For your information, and again, I realize that people like you do not care about the truth and facts, I HAVE NEVER VOTED FOR A PAY RAISE, Never. Moreover, I am the ONLY Boardmember to EVER vote against increasing water rates!!

I honestly do not care what you think, but to the extent others may read your falsehoods, I needed to clarify the record.

So go ahead and tell the mentally challenged soon-to-be has-been Hector how I responded, and if you respond I will respond again.

Virginia, What's your problem? The two Albert Robles are public and political figures, and as such, probably deserve your criticism, be them true or false, but the other people you mention are not public figures. Have you ever considered posting your real name? Maybe this will increase your credibility. But like a cowardly terrorist your hide your name and offer no proof of any of your inflammatory statements. It is you who needs to be prosecuted for engaging in libelous and false accusations. Oh, I almost forgot, that scum like you and your trash statements, are also protected by our Constitution.

I have first hand knowledge about the mailers allegedly sent by Mr. Robles. They are totally benign, they encourage citizens to get out to vote and the other one promotes two candidates.

The D.A. screwed this one up. Mr. Robles should be turned over to the FPPC for sanctions.

With the privilege to post and exercise your freedom of speech rights, comes to the responsibility to be fair and factual.

Shame on you "Virginia" or should I call you Hector De La Torre?

Shame on you to have to use profanities against constituents who do not believe in you and to call them stupid.
You are right that we are a free Country and with this is the right to say Albert Robles Junior is not person for the job on the Water Board and Alberts statement that he was only one who did not vote for raise on the water board. This distinction belongs to Pat Acosta.
And while were at it why don't we get rid of all those Water Board Credit Cards? I stick to my opinion that Lil' Albert is a Bad Penny. And you know that is my real name, why deny it?

Profanity? Ignorant, stupid and bullshit are profanities?

Are you really that disconnected?

In the words of Forest Gump, stupid is what stupid does, and you are stupid for believing something that is contradicted by the facts.

Look, whether you like me or not, vote for me or not, I do not care, but when you start spreading falsehoods about me - I CARE and I will no longer let stupid ignorant people like you go unanswered.

Again, the facts are against you. You mentioned Pat Acosta, call her and ask her if she ever voted against increasing water rates? I know Pat to be a truthful person and she will tell you that she NEVER voted against a water rate increase, and then ask her if Albert Robles ever voted against a water rate increase and again because she will tell you the truth, she will confirm that indeed ALbert Robles did vote against water rate increase - ASK HER!!!

But again, DO NOT LET THE FACTS GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR HATRED TOWARD ME.

Albert,

Did you really use Waterboard moneys to take acting lessons at UCLA?

Did you really travel to Brazil, using Waterboard moneys, to check
on the water situation there?

Well?....................

Thank you for the questions.

Answers:
- Take acting class at UCLA? NO.
- Travel to Brazil on Waterboard money? NO.

These are the facts. UNDISPUTED FACTS.

I have also, never taken pilot classes, never been charged with political corruption, never been recalled, and am not presently in federal prison for 10-years. In other words, please DO NOT confuse these acts and others with my credentials and experience.

Thank you for asking for clarification.

Is this really the kind of people you want representing you? Do you want a breath of fresh air from a public servant who has been working for you for over 30 years? Do you see what happens when you put lower-level or stagnant attorneys in these kinds of positions? I won;t play the money game with these people, but I encourage you to do a Yahoo search for stevecastellanos.com and see if you prefer a person like myself, who has my entire retirement life opening up to be able to continue to serve. I can't believe what I have just been reading! I really can't! I NEED your support to do this job for you in the manner that you need! We are in a crisis and these people have nothing better to do than to fight each other! Decide for yourself and do that Yahoo search for stevecastellanos.com Thanks! God Bless and wish me luck!!

Wow!!! Some interesting comments. I will do my own research on some of these comments and Mr. Robles's voting record. Let's see who is telling the truth and who is not. Also I find it honorable that Mr. Fuentes appears to be genuine in his comments even though his wife is challenging Mr. Robles he appears to be fair towards Robles in his analysis. The group I work with monitors water districts for ratepayers throughout California since 2001 and is very aware of the charges against Mr. Robles. We closely examined his case and similar charges against other officials in California. The fact that his mail pieces were get out the vote type mailers without any negative tones, should speak volumes that his intentions were good not evil. NOT LIKE 99.99% of anonymous mailers. There have been a couple hundred cases similar to Mr. Robles yet we can find no other cases other than his that has had charges brought against them by a District Attorney all other matters were handled by the FPPC and fined an average of $1000 for there actions. Mr Robles' concerns of being singled out have merit. Whether you like Mr. Robles or not, it is important that we insist our laws be upheld equally and consititutionally. It does not appear Mr. Robles is being given a fair shake. I personally am not from Los Angeles so we dont have an emotional local tie to this issue. Since the beginning of time lawyers who represent defendants with criminal charges have had to deal with being judged not for the legal experts they are but for the clients they represent. We also researched this issue previously and had found Mr. Robles has represented many more high profile people than those named here. The fact he has represented so many and more seem to keep coming to him for representation says he must be pretty good at his chosen profession. Our country would hardly be what it is today if defendants did not have the ability to represented. The system is what it is to protect innocent people from being wrongly prosecuted. Mr Castellanos good luck but you should be aware the history of retired offcials from the water industry on these boards has not been very positive for Californians. What we do like is your 30 years of experience. But in all honesty we are very impressed with Mr. Robles 16 year record on the Water Replenishment District he not even 40 years old yet! His educational backgound is to be commended 2 BAs a Masters in Public Administration from USC and a Law Degree for UC Berkeley and 16 years as a water policy maker on ground water issues, not many of those around. He may be unique. Unless someone has some hard core proof of corruption, black and white proof people not innuendos or hype, or proof his votes have gone against ratepayers we are likeley to support him. We see the L.A. County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO has endorsed him. It is respected by most that it is one of the toughest endorsements to get in L.A. They don't get caught up in gossip only voting records count. I'll get back to you soon we will pull his voting record.

CLARIFICATION OF MR ALBERT ROBLES'S VOTING RECORD OF THE WATER REPLENISHMENT DISTRICT OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. We spent numerous hours researching Mr. Robles voting record. We only had the last 10 years of 16 available. We found no record of Mr. Robles ever voting to increase water rates. We found no record of any other board member in the last 10 years voting against increasing rates. Mr. Robles has been truthful in his statements here. Moreover, as stated previously we have done further research of his educational and ground water background. We have found no other person in California that matches his background in this area. The minutes indicate he has also been a champion of making sure WRD has been transparent in awarding contracts to qualified vendors and mentoring emerging businesses. He definitely keeps WRD staff on their toes to perform and to follow their established processes. He appears to have had a problem with his public image being unfairly convulted with another convicted politician serving 15 years federal time who has the same exact name. The other Albert Robles was a Treasurer for the City of South Gate, in Los Angeles County, more confusing is that the convicted Robles was also a member of a water board, Central Basin Municipal Water District, that neighbors and over laps areas served by WRD. Also we found that the trips and educational concerns expressed earlier here also belonged to the convicted Robles, not the Albert Robles of WRD. We also took an interest in researching the relationship between these 2 Robles'. If they were so called best friends the convicted Robles was a really bad one. Where the convicted Robles was convicted for handing out property and contracts to his closest friends, the Attorney Ablert Robles of WRD was never a contractor or sub-contractor in South Gate, and there was plenty of legal work to go around. We found no evidence of a check to Attorney Robles directly or as a sub-contractor. Moreover we dont find where the FBI, L.A. County District Attorney, or the U.S. Attorneny General Office interviewed or investigated Attorney Robles as being part of the scandal at South Gate. But we did find evidence where the convicted Albert Robles hired Attorney Albert Robles to represent him during the appeal stage of his conviction. Where this may have ruffled some folks feathers we dont have a problem with this relationship as the convicted Robles was going to hire someone anyways and had a right to choose Johnnie Cochran, Gloria Allred or Joe Nobody to defend him. It may not have been wise for Attorney Robles to defend him but this is not all illegal or corrupt. As a matter of fact we have heard but have no proof that Attorney Robles was stiffed by the Con man Robles. This hardly sounds like a friendly relationship more professional if anything.
