The Obama Con

Conservatives supporting the most liberal Senator in the United States for President? A veritable socialist who talks glibly about family, faith and freedom etc. and we fall for it?>
There is not one conservative plank in Obama's vague platform. All he gives us is a lot of rhetoric peppered with our buzzwords. Any way you slice it, Barack Obama would be a disaster for conservatives. Higer taxes, far left judges, gay marraige, greater government interference with what's left of the free market, carte blanche to enviornmental wackos - all this is just the tip of the iceberg.
No, there are no conservatives with three digit IQs who actually support Barack Obama. But there are a fair amount of conservatives who are so disgusted with the national Republican leadership that they will support Obama out of spite, or a belief that handing America to the wolves now will force most Americans to wake up and throw the pinko bums out in four years.
They're playing with fire. The damage done in four years by President Obama would take decades to reverse. The structure of our economy would be radically tilted in favor of greater regulation and poor choices made in the name of enviornmental protection.
Disgusted conservatives are grasping at rhetorical straws to justify supporting Obama. So what if he can toss around some comforting verbiage about the importance of faith and faith based organizations? This guy's religious mentor for twenty years was an anti-American racist.
He talks about keeping President Bush's faith based initiatives office in the White House and casually throws in that of course those who receive government money have to abide by government standards regarding non discrimination etc.
The magic of words is in how you define them. Does non-discrimination mean that those who oppose abortion must be silent on that issue if they receive government funds? By putting strings on the money you start down that slippery slope to limiting freedom of religious expression and favoring some institutions over others.
Barack Obama came to his Christian faith through the United Church of Christ, one of the most liberal Protestant demoninations. They support abortion, gay marraige etc. Would it be any surprise if a President Obama decided that the"fairness" and "non-discrimination" shown by these liberal churches merited more government support than the "less tolerant" faiths of evangelical Christians, Orthodox Jews or Mormons? Not to me, but apparently it would to some of our more gullible conservative brethren.
John McCain is understandably hard for conservatives to get excited about. But let's not get stupid about it.
Barack Obama is a hard core leftist with a gift for gab. His sudden moderation is the oldest trick in the poltical playbook. He's not a new brand of politician - just the same old can of red beans with a spiffy new label and the same old flatulence.
