Where the heck do they come up with these panels of experts? The Los Angeles Economy and Jobs Committee's latest proposal pushes all kinds of lofty infrastructure expansion without recognizing that the policies of Big Labor are to blame for the decrease in economic growth and job creation in Los Angeles.
Howard Fine over at The Los Angeles Business Journal has a very readable summarization of the 140 page report here.
Among other things, the report should have encouraged the City of Los Angeles to abandon proposed policies to impose a union monopoly on all city construction through Project Labor Agreements. Project Labor Agreements are responsible for jacking up the cost of public works projects by up to 20%. You can build all the expensive crap you want but if the cost of doing business in L.A. is more expensive than say San Diego, guess where the jobs are going to go?
