Lincoln Throws a Party

By Ken Campbell | 07/02/09

The Lincoln News Messenger ran a story today (link here), entitled "Lincoln Throws a Party", dealing with Lincoln's 4th of July celebration.  The story ended with a quote from John Adams.   Allow me to share the complete John Adams quote (and story) according to David McCullough in his book “John Adams”.    After long deliberations in the Old Pennsylvania State House (now known as Independence... read more »

County execs enjoy $1,600 meal on taxpayers' dime

By Ken Campbell | 07/01/09

This Auburn Journal article is a must read (link here or pasted below).  When Rocky Rockholm got caught charging the taxpayers for his $10,000 plane ride, I said I bet there is more.  Sure enough, you pull the thread and things start unraveling-- now the taxpayers are paying $1,600 for a dinner. Think about it, how many of us would pay $1,600 for a dinner, but we work hard and pay our taxes so our county officials can live like... read more »

WPUSD with "an extra $18.8 million budgetary windfall this year"

By Ken Campbell | 06/19/09

Two weeks ago all households in the Western Placer Unified School District (WPUSD) received, in the mail, a newsletter.  This expensive, four-page, color, WPUSD newsletter was even sent to households that do not have children attending WPUSD schools.  It is nice to know WPUSD has so much spare cash. In fact in the newsletter we are told that “the district” was given “an extra $18.8 million budgetary windfall... read more »

By Ken Campbell | 06/10/09

Red County is now advertising the movie  THE STONING OF SORAYA M..  I would encourage everyone to click on the advertisement and view the clips. Many months ago I was in a group who viewed the movie and for obvious reasons we were asked to keep it quiet.  THE STONING OF SORAYA M. will stun and shock you as you gain insight into radical Islam.  This movie is a true story based on a book by Fereidoune Sahebjam. The... read more »

Those Who Forget the Past are Doomed to Repeat It

By Ken Campbell | 05/12/09

This week my daughter, a junior at a local private high school, showed me what she was learning in U.S. History.  They were studying the New Deal and FDR.  One of the study question, that she was working on, caught my eye : "How did the New Deal attempt to regulate agriculture and business?  What was the result of such legislation?" And her answer: "The New Deal called for more government... read more »

Ollar-Burris case soon to be dismissed??

By Ken Campbell | 04/24/09

Bloger's note:  Because of the legal wrangling and language this Auburn Journal article (view article here or pasted below) needs some explanation.  Placer County alleged that George Wasley, Tom VanHorne and Michelle Ollar-Burris conspired to evade the California State Subdivision Map Act.  Over the last 4 years the Placer County District Attorney has never found any criminal activity, but not to be deterred, our County... read more »

Obama-- Fiscally Responsible??

By Ken Campbell | 04/21/09

This is a must see You Tube Video (click here to view) with ABC's Jake Tapper questioning Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs on why the Obama administration made such a big deal over saving $100 million in his proposed budget when the administration pooh-pooh $8,000 million of pork in appropriations bill several weeks ago. The Treasury Department just reported that the March budget deficit was $192,000 million for a projected Obama deficit of... read more »

Local Congress Members Defend Earmark Schemes

By Ken Campbell | 04/17/09

As a refresher, "earmarks" are a re-election tool in which Congressional members send taxpayer money to their friends and supporters to pave the way for a lifetime of re-elections.  Earmarks can help facilitate campaign donations and, in some cases, enrich the congressman.  Earmarks are not based on the "merit" of the project, but rather political influence.  Alaska's "bridge to nowhere" first brought... read more »

This tax is for you

By Ken Campbell | 04/16/09

Blogger's note:  The following column appeared today in the Auburn Journal (click here to view on the Journal web page).  Once again Tom McClintock masterfully and flawlessly lays out a conservative argument.  It would be great to hear Tom's detractors lay out an equally articulate and fact-filled counter-argument without insults, condescension and character assassination. This tax is for you Another View By Tom McClintock,... read more »
