Jim Battin, Your Party Needs You, Too!
By Matthew Cunningham | 06/27/09 | 12:36 AM EDT | 1 Comment
Another friend e-mailed me to recommend recently termed-out state Sen. Jim Battin as a preferable primary challenger to Rep. Mary Bono-Mack, rather than former Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia.
Jim Battin served three terms in the Assembly and two in the state Senate, and is currently eying a run for Lieutenant Governor. Jim amassed a solid conservative record, but my most vivid impression of him was during the fight to bring down Assembly Speaker Doris Allen in 1995. That fracas separated the men from the mealy worms in the Assembly GOP Caucus, and Battin was always right on the front line. That spirit left long-lasting positive impression on me.
Clearly, Battin still aspires to political office, and that same fighting spirit would prove a valuable weapon in a primary battle to take out Bono-Mack.
I don't know what, if any, relationship Garcia or Battin have with Bono-Mack. Different readers will have different takes on which they would prefer as a primary challenger -- assuming either one wants to take on the job.
My point is it needs to be done. This vote for cap-and-trade isn't a anomaly in Bono-Mack's record, but represents a tipping point at which Republicans have to say, "enough is enough!" It's especially egregious because this was a close vote: Nancy Pelosi had to work and scratch to pass this assault on liberty because 44 Democrats defected. For Bono-Mack to put up her vote and make Pelosi's life easier...unconscionable.
By the way, Rohit Joy has created a new FaceBook group: "We Will Support A REAL Republican Over Mary Bono Mack In June 2010!" Join it!

No! We (the Republican party) do NOT need Battin or any of his cohorts. We've had enough of Battin. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you that Battin along with his cohorts have destroyed certain sections in the Corporations Code, the Business and Professions Code, and Civil Code sections to name but a few. He has done so with utter disdain for the wishes of his constituents. Even while his loyal and supportive constituents begged him not to support the bad bills, he couldn't care less, he supported them anyway, and did so, even while those bills hurt his constituents. In fact, Battin, confused, probably thought his constituents were his Democrat aiders and abettors. His arrogance was simply unsurpassed and nothing's changed with him. Leopards don't change their spots. Go look at his voting record and see where his misplaced obligations lie. The guy is a nightmare. Surely the Republicans can find a true-blue Republican that can stand up to the pressure of the Democrats; someone who won't be strongarmed; someone who can't be corrupted; someone who will not partake in the doorstops and 11th hour dealings with the enemy; someone who won't partake in the "bargaining away" of those who helped get him elected! Battin is a game player and fails to shoot from the hip. He thinks he's clever, but in actuality he';s only clever when it comes to saving his own skin. He is surrounded by a bunch of flunky "legal analysts" who are nothing more that trained phone-spotters. Once they get your name, and you are not important enough, they give you the perverbial runaround and the "call back" scheme. The rest of his staff are trained in transfering calls to unlimited "voicemail" where no one calls back until the 5 o'clock hour on a Friday evening and preface their conversations with the caveat that Mr. Battin himself believes, or says, or relays; meaning, no one in that office is accountable for ANYTHING. We don't need anymore of this type of politician!! Unless you are a high powered donor to his campaigns, don't bother trying to get anything accomplished.
