The Daily Breeze reports today that Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn is exploring a run for Lieutenant Governor in 2010.

The office of Lt. Governor is currently being held by John Garamendi who is locked in a tight race for Congress from the 10th Congressional District against GOP Businessman David Harmer.

Lt. Governor serves as President of the State Senate, sits on the UC Board of Regents and CSU Board of Trustees, also serves as Chairman of the State Lands Commission.

Mrs. Hahn represents the 15th Council District areas of San Pedro and Wilmington who was elected in 2001 along with the brother James Hahn who was elected as Mayor of Los Angeles.

If Mrs. Hahn decides to run she will be the only female running on the Democratic side for a statewide office.

The other declared Democrats has expressed interest are State Senator Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach, District 27) and State Senator Dean Florez (D-Shafter, District 16) and two Republicans are State Senator Jeff Denham (R-Merced, District 12) and State Senator Sam Aanestad (R-Grass Valley, District 4).

The last time a Los Angeles City Councilmember from the 15th Council District made run for statewide office was GOP Joan Milke Flores who was unsuccessful to unseat incumbent March Fong Eu for California Secretary of State in 1990.

As a lifelong resident of

As a lifelong resident of L.A., I would like to proclaim my support for Janice Hahn's retirement into complete obscurity.

Where do you get this idea

Where do you get this idea that Garamendi is in a tight race. This race was over when Garamendi won the primary. The special election is just procedural at this point.

Candidates do not drop

Candidates do not drop $45,000 in two separate television ads, one of which is an attack ad, if they are doing great and the race is over. Add to that, the attack mailers, the Obama stop, the GOTV mobilization by Democrats, and the almost $1,000,000 Pretty Boy john has raised, and yeah, I would say that there is a tight election race going on up north.
