Interview With the Finger Bite Victim
By Michael Kerr | 09/03/09 | 06:58 PM EDT | 4 Comments
The Weekly Standard’s Mary Katharine Ham caught up with William Rice, the individual who had his pinky finger literally bitten off last night by an Obamacare supporter at a health care vigil in Ventura, California. Rice is apparently upbeat despite losing the finger.
An excerpt from the interview:
Rice drove himself to nearby Los Robles Hospital after the incident for treatment. One report said his finger was reattached, but Rice told THE WEEKLY STANDARD in a phone interview that's not the case.
"They weren’t able to attach it because a human bite has so much bacteria," said Rice, who also said Wednesday's rally had a different feeling than other local health care events he'd been to recently.
"It had a Code Pink element that I’d never seen before and it had a MoveOn element I'd never seen before," he said, calling some of the Obamacare supporters "borderline emotionally out of control."
The MoveOn.org crowd has a reputation for “in your face” tactics but this incident really illustrates just how completely unhinged these people really are. Red County’s Palm Beach editor experienced the violent nature of Obamacare supporters twice in the same week at rallies in Florida last month.
There seems to be very little sympathy for Rice from liberals on Twitter. According to Mary Katharine’s article, some Obamacare supporters are calling the incident a victory for government-run medicine because of the fact that Mr. Rice is using his Medicare coverage to pay for his hospital visit. |Ok, I'm no psych major but something tells me that there are deeper issues at work here. This level of hostility has nothing to do with health care. Rather than completely overhauling the system, maybe we should focus on free mental help for these loons.

|And we're the "angry mob"?!
I was counter-protesting a health care rally in Seattle last night in a sanctioned off area across the street specifically for us. Yet, those on the other side kept coming over and harassing us... making threats about being larger than us, getting in people's faces, and at one point even using a sign to smack one of our guys in the face! It was ridiculous. The police had to move them away from us several times, not vice versa.
