Shocking! The San Diego City Council's 'financial analyist' Andrea Tevlin has urged officials to at least consider new revenues. Know what 'new revenues' mean in normal American English? You guessed it: tax hikes on you and your family. Andrea says, actually, that we shouldn't ignore 'any opportunity' to to shore up revenue. Chatting with folks here downtown, one consistent question is: where do they go? The "they" of course are Republican Council members Maienschein and Madaffer and Democrat Council members Peters and Atkins. Dazed and Confused

So the San Diego City Council voted to raise our water rates Tuesday. I find myself in an interesting position on this one, in that I support the Sanders reform agenda but oppose new taxes generally, and specifically new taxes on me. But the Mayor supports the hike, and the one reliable reform vote on the council, Kevin Faulconer, voted for it. Sigafoose Mid-Term Resignation

Republican Carlsbad Councilwoman Norine Sigafoose has resigned two years into her four year term citing health concerns. Sigafoose has tended to be a somewhat independent voice on a city council that is known for unity, and she will be missed. Long-time Mayor Claude 'Bud' Lewis has called for a special Tuesday meeting to discuss whether Sigafoose's open seat should be appointed by the remainder of the council, or elected.
