Jay Johnson is the Precinct Committiee Officer (PCO) for the 26th Legislative District (Gig Harbor and other parts of Pierce County). He recently submitted this grass roots call to action, and explains that our lack of power in all things political started a long time ago. The key to getting that power back is in your own neighborhood. It starts with the school board!

Republican’s Gave Up 50 Years Ago

As I reflect back on my life and think about the fix our country is in today, I come to one conclusion:  we have let the liberals educate us and our children for the last 50 years.  Think about it – all the teachers you had as a student in publics schools and all the teachers your kids have had come from the liberal education establishment.

When was the last time you truly cared about who was elected to the school board?  I am suggesting that right now – well before November – that you get involved and think and act as if the school board was the most important election facing us.  It very well could be for the next several decades.

Our schools are ground zero. Aside from creating a whole new private school system aimed at teaching our constitution as it was written and intended to be interpreted, the only way to correct this course we're on is to take back the current system .

If you don’t believe the liberal school system is re-writing history – just ask your children and grandchildren general history questions and compare it to what you know about our nation’s history. Not only is our history at risk, but the very values that we grew up with are at risk.  In fact, the values have been almost eradicated, for fear of seeming too “intolerant” or “narrow-minded.”

I have spoken to several high school seniors in my community who are members of the board of our local Republican Club and they are astute enough to know and have learned from other sources that the history being taught is not “your father’s version of history.” Some high school students in my own school district have wanted to start a Young Republican Club; there is not one conservative teacher out of about 100 faculty members, therefore there is no teacher sponsor available for such a club .  However, you can be sure that the Young Democrat club is alive and well (so much for “fair and balanced”).

If we are ever to get our country back, it must start with our local school boards.  We must recruit, financially support and create grass roots campaigns for Republican candidates for these positions. Getting conservatives elected to local school boards is the only way we can influence who is hired to educate future generations and  our best hope of restoring the content of our children’s education.

Many school board members go on to become candidates for local, city, county, state and federal offices.  Your local school board is the beginning of the “farm team” the Republican Party is so sorely lacking.

We often complain that our elected officials do not represent the folks back home.  Well, if back home we are choosing and grooming our candidates from the school board on up – guess where their loyalties are more likely to lie!  Let’s create some loyal elected officials starting this year.  Focus on your local school board.

This year we have been hearing a consistent mantra from Republicans at all levels – we must rebuild as a grass roots organization.  What better way than building our farm team from the school board on up?  The time to start is not in November, but now.
