The Fair Political Practices Commission will take up an item on Billionaire George Soros at their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2009:

4.        In the Matter of George Soros, FPPC No. 05/492.  Staff: Staff Counsel IV Melodee A. Mathay.  In October 2004, Respondent George Soros, a resident of New York, failed to timely disclose a $350,000 late contribution in a late contribution report, in violation of Government Code Sections 84203, subdivision (a) and 84605, subdivision (b) (1 count).  Respondent also failed to timely file a semi-annual campaign statement for the reporting period January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004, in violation of Government Code sections 84200, subdivision (b) and 84605, subdivision (b) (1 count).  Total Proposed Penalty: $8,000.

The FPPC was created due to the approval of Proposition 9 "Political Reform Act" by California voters in 1974.

Major donors are those that make campaign contributions, monetary or non-monetary, to state and local candidates in excess of $10,000 are required to fill out FPPC Form 461 "Major Donor and Independent Expenditure Committee Campaign Statement".

So, with Ross Johnson at the helm as Chairman of the FPPC should be reminded that everyone, including George Soros, are not above California's campaign finance laws.

Therefore, message to George Soros on the proposed penalty of $8,000 may be chump change for you, but understand that you will not mess with California again!
